Rose Pedals...

Well, this is something a friend sent me that I have no idea how it works. Can you figure it out?

I figured it out. think of them as cubes. the petals are the dots in the cubes which have a dot in the middle , Just count up all the cubes like that. Remember there has to be a dot in the middle to count as a"rose"/

Well, I was going to give you a hint (I just figured it out after doing it for a half hour), but looks like regulate already gave it away (baaaaad! Didn't you read direction #5? ).
