Rotary decreases wheel spin?

Well, I decided to win the RX-8 and play around with it. So I took it to the track, as a stock car, I put ASM and TCS to 0, and went out to try some "Donuts", and I found that if I reversed from the grass to the track the wheels would spin, until the rev limiter in Gear 1, then when I switched there would be a long pause, and the wheel spin would go and the RPM for gear two would start increasing. It was around 243hp, it was stock. So was this because of the Rotary, or the horsepower?

This car has almost 0 wheel spin, even at 0 ASM and TCS.

I'm not sure of your question, do you want to know why there was a long pause (Its because of the standard clutch. Change it to a triple plate and it'll be quicker).

The rotary engine would not affect the wheelspin...it's just a type of engine. Wheelspin a function of too much torque on the wheel during acceleration, which could come from any engine.

Having a long pause between geers will reduce wheelspin by decreasing acceleration, but that's a function of the clutch and transmission, not the engine.

rotaries are however notoriously high in power but low in torque...
maybe a relativley low torque combined with wide tires and a stock clutch is the cause?

I didn't know that. Yes well that might explain it.

yeah for example, the supra rz vs. the rx7 rz:

supra: 276hp @ 5600, 332@3600 torque
rx7: 276hp @ 6500, 231@5000 torque

as you can see, these cars are quite diferent in thier torque. the rx7 has substantialy less (about 100 less) but at much higher revs. most engines reach their max torque at lower mid point in the rev range where as rotaries dont reach it till (well) past the mid point.

this equates to very little torque in the low ranges and there fore when you change gears, the revs drop and the tires stop spinning.... if they did at all.

dont get me wrong tho, I like the rx7 100% more than the supra. it is about 200kg lighter and handles much better :)
