Interesting course. I used to drive GT2 all the time, then I took a 1year hiatius to drive GT3 (and to find a real job, buy a house, and get married). I barely remember drving this course, it must not be in the simulation disk very often.

This course has some really fast straights, good for the high HP big street cars. Then some slight bends where if your car sticks to the ground, you can keep it floored, good for the cars with downforce. Then those tight narly turns towards the end, good for the little light weight cars.

So I haven't decided what's fastest here yet. But I'm building up a garage with a few canidates. (I'm getting tired of doing that red rock race to win and sell the speed 12 though).

Alright, you've inspired me to keep track of my times. I don't keep too much on my memery card, so I'm going to maintain them in an excel file. These are all I have so far, they're from other challenges I ran since the start of the year (that's why some of the car pics are weird!)

God knows how many laps I've done at rome night now. Setting up and experimenting on different cars. One thing I do like about GT3 over GT2... There's only one disk, no swapping back and forth.

Well any ways I ended up using different cars than I thought I would for T2, T1 and GT2.

For T2, I ended up using the Clio sport with a racing modification. A very mild tune to keep it over the 8.5 lb/hp limit. It's a pretty strong car at mild tune. I figured the extra HP and expense of light weight was needed to stomp on that up hill straight and home straight. Having the nibleness of a Mid engine really helped in that zig zag at the end of the up hill straight. Go a kinda rally style 4wheel drift going.

For T1, At first I tryed the Clio Sport again with higher tune. It worked okay, but didn't have much umph in the straights and seemed to be too heavy in the turns for it's HP. I tried a few other very light weights, but wasn't getting the high speed. Then I went to the FWD Tavion FTO. It worked very well, but being a FWD pushed pretty bad in most of the turns so I had to tap the brakes to get the rear end around. After moving on to other races, I came back to T1 with a near zero tune R390 '97. It had some very torquy power and handled great through most of the turns, just the right balence to not push although not enough power to throttle steer. But in T1 I don't think you can find enough power to throttle steer. So I turned about 3sec per lap better in the R390.

For GT2 I went with the R390 all the way. Some higher tune got me close to the limit, but I think if I started with a fresh car (no port and polish or balencing) I could have gotten closer to the limit. This was smooth and very well balenced. Strong for the straights, light weight and nimble for the turns. If you got in trouble pushing somewhere too slow, flooring it got the rear end around and pointed down the track. Despite not having adjustable suspension or down force, the R390 was very fast. If I could I would have sofened up the suspension just a bit so not to get so out of shape when I ran over one of those red and white border lines.

GT1 I tried the R390 at a high tune. It was fast, but almost too fast for the car. It would throw me in the turns with not enough downforce to make them with out agressively braking. Then there was the wheelie quirk. On the up hill straight right at the peak the front end would start to lift, and nearly launch the car. I think GT2 is too fast for any car without added downforce. So then I went with a car I've never driven. The Atlantique 600 LM from Venturi. I've never bothered with any of their cars, but this one had the statistics. It's a 95 model, but looks like a delorean from back to the future to me. Despite that, it had over 700Hp and some serious moves in the turns. It was just a tad tail happy, which only came into play at the very last hard right turn. If you hit the bump on the inside and floored it coming out of the turn it would really get wild, and if you could gather it up, it ruined your straight away speed. But if you could remember this for eight straight laps, it was easy to avoid.

Super. I can't help but use the Escudo. Maybe next month I'll try something different since I really don't like drving it. Funny thing though I did two complete races before I notice I was on "Normal" tires. I have no idea why I would have ever put on normal tires, and now wonder how long I've been racing with them on. Anyways, my time dropped by almost 4 seconds per lap by changing tires.

So how do you'all think you did?

computer is going through a reinstall and is unstable. i was already planning to wait three days, the time gary said i should post results whether he has times or not, but that may not work out. we'll see.

If you ever need help crunching numbers let me know. I enjoy playing with numbers, much more obedient than people.

probably not, but thanks. oh, i'll get to editing later, but it's intermediate. you chose correctly.

the graphics seem worse than i remembered, i tried out rome 2 but i didn't beat your time with the 97 r390, though i would have with a clean lap. corners can be somewhat blurred.

12for 12, i think your cars are legal, but it is based on p-w now.

How weird is that. I mention a Delorean, I re-read the message late yesterday while at work and was chuckling... "A Delorean, haha, what a goofy car" Then on my way home I SAW ONE, one the road... Driving even!.

I think I've seen 2 or three in the past ever. This must be a sign from the car gods. Now I might have to keep using that Venturi. Or maybe I'm suppost to go buy Back to the Future?

i was moments away from finishing the scores, but the computer locked up. it's just not stable enough.

woodrufj won all classes and got all best laps; the12for12 was 2nd in the rest. there you go. proper scoring later.

your times are really good, jay. at 490 (in the settings menu) i was in the 1:27's. What's your gearing/brakes and technique?

this new p-w ratio is awesome! So many cars to chose from. I didn't want to miss the deadline so I ran what I had ready. Get ready jay, the next round is mine:D , I hope:odd:

I assume your talking GT2.

As I said I used the R390 '97' At minimum weight and 499hp. I've got it written down at home, but I'll quote from memory now. The gearing was auto13. I don't use brake controllers because they just seem to mess me up. Spin control thing and traction control thing, Limited slip set about 50%. SS tires, drive chain stuff, engine balence, port and polish, stage 1 turbo, computer chip? What ever it takes to get to 499hp in the garage scean. Suspension is non-adjustable, the downforce is unavailible.

Here's what I remember:
full throttle through the start line. Grab brake until 3rd gear, turn right at full throttle, full throttle through the first left. Dab the brakes to get through the second left (not necessary to get through the turn, but helps set up the next) get over to the left, full trottle through the hard right, soft right, straight away up hill start down hill. hard on the brakes to 4th gear (location of braking zone changes depening on car and speed), little gas really gets the back end around on the right turn, lift to get through the left. Full throttle about 50% through the turn (the half way point is deeper than your intuition). Full throttle down little straight, get over to left. If set up well make right at full throttle just cliping the inside red and white line (important), if not set up perfect, lift and clip the red and white line, if set up poorly tap brakes to get back end around. Then stomp gas down straight. Get over to the right slam brakes to 2nd gear to make left hairpin, clipping red and white line if possible, key here is not to get too deep in the turn (know your braking zone). Stomp gas out of it, this will get the back end around some more if you need it, but then have to counter steer to get going straight. Full throttle until come up to the hard left. Hard brakes to 3rd gear, clip red and right line on left, if not perfect might have to hold off throttle just a bit. Get straight and full throttle. Get over to left, make the soft right and full throttle, then hard brakes until you just hit 2nd (sometimes works at the very bottom of 3rd), hard right, helps to hit the red and white to kick the car straight. Then full throttle about 50% through the turn and hold it across the line.

Class: GT2
L5: 01:23.936*
Car: Nissan R390 '97
Weight: 2028
HP: 499
Ratio: 4.064128257

using the same car but less HP in T1 makes the race almost the same, except the braking zones are a little later since you've got less speed.

i dropped everything in the traction area to 1.

hard to follow that at a glance, which is probably why. what are your speeds?

what are your speeds?

I'll have to look this one up at home. I don't think I wrote it down, so I might have to run a few laps to get an idea.

I think I got to about 7.5K in 6th, what ever that gets you. (up hill straight)

i think my auto is 34. might be 13, don't remember. i'm tired anyways. later.

results are up

Geez, there's like 15 guys on teams, only 2 put in times!?!

Where is everyone. I hope you'all hit it up next time.
