Mercedes is testing technology on its cars that can 'see' round corners for possible hazards ahead

Parent firm DaimlerChrysler has been trialling the WILLWARN system. This uses car-to-car communication to send alerts of possible danger spots to vehicles within 500 metres carrying the same kit. The system is expected to be available in production models within five years.

Good on mercedes, they need to go back to being the innovators, as of late years they seemed to have lost what a MB is meant to be about.

Because of a idiot chrysler boss interfering makin MB reduce costs by dropping quality. I think they are in the process of reversing the damage still.

Uhmmmm... so instead of doing pile-ups in tunnels, Mercs are going to do it corners, too?

That should work well with the massive A-pillars on all their cars....

I can't be the only one who thinks that adding technology is not the answer to a simple design problem, can I? Must I beat this dead horse until there's nothing left? Why can't any of these manufacturers ever take the simpler, more responsible way out? Why force people to rely on electronic crutches rather than their own, now slowly fading, abilities? Oh, right: the answer is somewhere between basic human stupidity and NIMBY.
