Is anyone able to get near the magazine test times for 0-60mph on non-4wd cars? I am using SH or CS tires to be similar to stock and real life and can't get near the times. Even accounting for 0.3 seconds on a rollout it's off by 0.5 seconds. I understand it's much harder when you only have like 1 second to actually line up your launch and have almost no feel...

They don't tell you in the magazine how much fuel there was in the car, nor how much the driver weights. Some manufacturers have used dynamo results to calculate 0-62 or even doing them on a down-hill slope*

*from one of the episodes of Fifth Gear

One thing I've started doing is learning the engine noise for whatever car I'm testing... so I'll find out what rpm to launch at, then during the countdown for the speed test I match that rpm by using the engine sound. Isn't hard and works well for me.

^Hope that's clear.

I was under the assumption that cars are figured with the driver and a passenger?

The only way to get near real life times is to put RS tyres on, maybe its because tyres are cold?

I started a thread on this a few pages back.

I'm starting a list. So far I'm only a few cars in. I started with the Nissan
370Z just cause I thought it would be a nice middle of the road car to start with. now I'm going through my garage in alphabetical order. So far the only two other cars on my list besides the "Z" I've been able to get a few times from the "Car Mag's" were for the Aston Martin DB9 and the Alfa Romeo 8C Copetizione. I have a DFGT but I've not been using it for the acceleration tests. Might try it too see if I can get better times than the DS3 before i get to much further. But here's the times I got for those three compared to times from both Road&Track and Motor Trend.

DB9
GT5 0-60=4.6sec 1/4-mile 12.9xx sorry can't remember exact # off hand.
R&T 4.6 12.9
MT 4.8 13.2

Alfa
GT5 4.6 12.9xx yeah, same as DB9 funny thing
R&T 4.2 12.4
MT 4.6 12.8

370Z
GT5 5.2 13.8
R&T 5.1 13.7
MT 4.8 13.4 found two test from MT(split the diff.)

So guess it depend on the car and which Mag u want to go by seems R&T got some killer #'s witht he Alfa and MT with the "Z" car but the DB9 #'s are pretty on the money. if you average these three out I'd say GT5 within 0.2sec or ther abouts so far in my testing.

Try the 458 italia or GT-R 2012 on their stock tyres then!

Holden Monaro CV8 '04 will do it, I got 0-100 in 5.7 seconds and a 0-400m time of about 13.9, which was what a fit example could just about manage. Some on the other hand, particularly the Supercars, can be an absolute pain to get moving.

Ahaha, for you maybe. And you use traction control and the rest?

I tried Traction Control on 1, cars were slower. Maybe in some of the really high powered cars it would be useful but not for less then 500hp so far all three of those cars were slower. You need a litttle wheelspin for optimal acceleration. The lack of a clutch and the ability to feel when the tires are grabbing just right.

all stock car, use tcs = off, with 1 or more it cost you at least 0,4 secs
even with 4wd turn the tcs off!!

Another thing you might consider is some of the magazine do their acceleration tests on a drag strip which might be tacky with rubber laid down from previous runs. That would help launch and 60 ft times which are a big part of 0-60, 0-100 and 1/4 mile times.

That could account for the difference in your times and tested times in the magazines.

GT traction physics = green track?

Drag strips are VERY sticky; beyond the rubber on the track they use a special sticky spray to make it have even more grip. That definitely could account for some of the difference. Launching cars without extra wheel spin in GT5 is very difficult; much more so than real life.

LOL, I was just thinking it would be near impossible to get the real world numbers on the Corvette ZR1 09 in GT5. That thing wheelspins so bad with all that power.

For the 1000000 times, GT5 dont have launch control, you start with cold tyres, so you can't compares those car at least. Specialy with the crappy animation before starting. If watch countless 0-100km/h on GT-R and if you see how they do, you simply can't recreate that in GT5. So for all car with launch control you'll never be able to be even close to the 0-100 times in magazine (or 0-60 if you're from a Mph country)

Calm down Dick!

Wheres the other 9999999 times you said it? Am I going blind?

Get a woman, you need it, freak boy!:dunce:

I 2nd you on that Phill, calm down FD! For 1 thing I don't think we're taking these times all that seriously. But I think since I'm getting times within 0.2 to 0.3 seconds of the real times in the mags, that's pretty good. Also having been to many test and tune days at the drag strip, most people running street tires don't heat them up, they don't work like drag slicks and they don't want to waste away their street tires, heating them up doesn't result in a significant enough gain to compensate for having to buy a new pair of tires. I also don't think the mag test guys heat them up either as they're trying to give a real world simulation, they don't always test on a drag strip either, for that same reason. As far as launch control goes, just like in GT5, most of these cars in real life, can post better times, with a professional driver, with it turned off. And let's not forget that most of these tests of mine are on unbroken in motors.

All my tests so far have been bone stock with the whatever tires the cars came with from the dealership and no Traction Control. Most lower performance cars come with comfort tires and the higher end cars usually come with Sport Hards, which I believe most closely simulates high performance street tires.
