Hello I just recieved a new internet modem installed it with the CD and all is well but when i try to hook it up to my belkin wireless router the Modem light flashes yellow/oragne on the router and i get no internet to the computer. If i unplug it from the router and directly plug it to the computer the internet works fine.

any help would be greatly apreciated, thanks

2 guesses.

Some ISPs use the connected device's MAC address for authentication. Your computer's network card has a hardware address that is unique in all the world, no other network card has that address. Your cable people used that to set up your modem.

Your router's network interface has a different address, so the cable company's system won't allow it to connect. Many router's installation programs include a question about cloning the computer's MAC address. You should do this. If it's too late to do it as part of the original setup, it can still be done through the router's management page, but it'll be less automatic. You'll have to find the address of the computer's card, and know where to put it in the router.

Second guess, you may actually need a different cable (crossover instead of straight-thru) to connect the router instead of the PC, but that would be very surprising.

Maybe the modem has the same ip address as the router. This causes a conflict in your network.
