Router Performance - Linksys E3000

I've been using this router for a couple years and it's performance has been spotty. Bypassing the router by hooking up my cable modem to my computer I get around 31 mb/sec download and 6 mb/sec upload. Thru the router I still get the 31 mb/sec download but my upload drops to around 1 mb/sec. Is this normal or is my router broken.

What router do you guys recommend? Thanks for any help you can provide.

You will probably get more replies if you move this to the computer thread. Also, I had an old Belkin wireless N that was great, never dropped a signal or even had to power cycle it in two years, but... It only lasted two years and died. Belkin customer service is great and really tried to help sort it out, but in the end i think the unit was just dead. So i replaced it with a Linksys 4200 dual band and have had a great speed, but spotty and inconsistent. Pick your poison.

That's why I bought myself an Apple Airport Extreme router. No problems so far and consistant speeds, no last connections, good ping, high amount of maximum simultanious connections.

The other router I had in mind at that time was a D-Link DIR-855 which is also a very vast and good router according to many reviews. The DIR-857 is its successor I think.

Mod Request - merger with the other identical thread and moved to the correct subforum, with a PM to the user kindly explaining the situation and directions to the location of his thread:
