Can there be a rule to keep ones sig relevant to gran turismo? Some people have a load of rubbish on them and it makes the place a bit messy.

Also there is a code to hide the original link text if you are linking to stuff which would make it more tidy.

Your signature space can be used for anything you like, really, so long as its within the rules and within the constraints imposed by the forum software. Most people use it to share their personality, favorite links, quotes, etc., and that's a good thing - it doesn't need to be focused on or strictly relevant to Gran Turismo.

If you don't like to look at signatures, you can disable them in your account options.

👍

Jordan, can we make images for signatures like other forums here on GTP? (I don't want to because it just creates a whole lot of junk on the screen but is it possible or is it against the acceptable use policy?)

Thanks.

No, signature images are not allowed on GTPlanet.

Off-topic, appropriate sigs are one of the few things Users can Spam without being against general common sense, or AUP rules, so it's for the good of some.

What purpose would that serve, honestly?

We already have an avatar for that. Ok I think I will turn sigs off, I liked seeing what level people were at for gt5 and there have been some interesting links in there. But some are immature, maybe i'm just showing my age!

Also I understand double-line smilies are not allowed? I got contacted by a mod saying my sig was wrong for being like this:

:gtpflag: Text
:gtpflag: Text
:gtpflag: Text
:gtpflag: Text

Hence why I have only 1 smilie in my sig at the moment.

Why? Why shouldn't people be allowed to express themselves in their signatures? It would be pretty boring if we were all the same.

Believe it or not, there will also be plenty of members here who don't play GT at all. It's such a huge, diverse community that it extends well beyond the realm of Gran Turismo.

Did you just call my son a load of rubbish? :irked: Terronium will not be happy!

;)

Why should sigs be relevant to GT when we have whole forums here that are not relevant to GT? And, as Danny indicated, we have users here that don't play GT...

They are barely noticeable if you just ignore them.

Compared to most forums where picture sigs are widely used, GTP's rules on the matter are spot on. 👍

Most sigs here only link to other GTPlanet pages anyhow.

Believe it or not, GTP is a pretty neat-looking forum by disabling images...

Though I don't get to be creative by disguising partitioned images as hyperlinks, I did the next best thing and used an abbreviated text, not like you knew it at first :p

and I don't play or care enough about Gran Turismo now to have anything related to it in my sig.

When I see other forums with images in the signatures, I tend to ignore the conversation until I can disable the signatures. By the third time I've seen the same image, I just stop caring about the thread.

I should also add that appending an image (intended as a signature) to every post is against the rules.

Hallelujah! The one other forum I occasionally venture to allows images in signatures and it makes navigating pages a nightmare in comparison to GTP.

Great tip! 👍 I just went and checked the other forum I occasionally visit. Signatures are now turned off. Constantly seeing the same images over and over is incredibly off-putting.

It's visual clutter and no better than attaching a large image in your sig, which is probably why you were asked to amend yours.

I tend to find it much easier to scroll down a forum when people's sigs are as small as possible. In general I want to read the posts themselves, rather than endless lines of other stuff.

What if the image was 500x80 in size?

Images in signatures are annoying period, no matter the size. I am here for the content of the forum, not search for posts through cluttered image signatures. The avatars on the left for each post are more than enough image.

Sigs look really neat on GTP as a result of no images. I just went a bit hyper on my BB code and created rainbow text.

Oh but if you really wanted, you can create a sig where there are six youtube videos on six rows. Now that is crazy. ME and my friend did it briefly to see what it looked like. Kept it while we chatted for about 10 minutes and realised it is dreadful and gets really annoying. Who would want to embed a yotube video in their sig anyway?

Also, has any ever seen a yotube video embeded in a sig before?

Me from you
It was terrible and took twice as long to scroll down the page

I think I've seen it before and quite frankly, if you must show the world a video, just hyperlink it with text....

You know what's worse? Having them on autoplay.

YouTube tags can't be disabled from signatures due to a shortcoming in the forum software, but myself or a member of the staff will remove any embedded videos in signatures if we find them.

Thanks to URL shortening I can have 3 links and 2 quotes (instead of 2 and 2)!! I am very glad about this also I think my signature while slightly colourful is not rubbish and is slightly GT related!

Whats URL shortening?

I have a few of those and if it cuts down on characters that would be great!

Taking the "My Motorbike" link in your signature, you can use tinyurl.com to shorten this
