This may or may not have bee mentioned before but I am 100% sure you guys have noticed anyhow but there seems to be a lack of engine sound when driving RuFs from bumper-cam. hit rear view and theres plenty of sound from the exhaust tho :)

now is this a glitch or is PD replicating the amazing sound deadening used in RuF cars?
;)

rear engined so hearing the engine would be hard

happens in ALL rear engined cars.

If you have surround sound you would hear the engine sounds better when in bumper cam view. Not sure about what it sounds like without surround sound though.

Sir, you enjoy Fiat motors, stick to what you know, the engine is in the back of these powerful sports cars, work it out.

I don't know about you, but it's not like the sound waves eminating from such a powerful engine would have ANY trouble reaching your ears. Come on, an engine can be deafening in the rear of a car no matter what speed you are going. Are you honestly telling me that sound waves traveling at 343mph have difficulty overcoming wind or something? Go back to Physics dude :)

True, but the sound reaching the driver from an RR is less than from an equivilent (I use that term loosely) FR. But PD have probably just 'enhanced' this fact to add to the game.

RR's are quiter, but not as quite as PD make out... :)

i play gt4 at work and at home, i have to keep changing sound settings because i have 5.1 at home, but not at work, its makes alot of difference,

tell me something I dont know

I am sure that the rufs engine spinning at 6000+ rpm would have some sound carrying forward.... I once was talking to a guy with a Lambo (yeah ok its MR) who say a conversation can be held in the car all the way up to 5000 rpm. From there you might be heard if you shout :D
I think PD might have exagerated just a touch. I have been in a porsche, you can hear the engine.

I've noticed on the drag strip that when the camera moves over the top of the car and you rev it the sound seems to change very suddenly.

Oh Well

Actually you will find that motoring journalists would wax lyrical about the sound of Porsche's air cooled flat six motor, and are also rather fond of the current liquid cooled lump. And I am sure that they did not don rollerskates and handcuff themselves to the rear bumper to experience this noise.

There is no reason why a rear engined car would be quieter than a front engined one. The exhaust nearly always exits at the rear in both cases, and any other intake or mechanical engine noises will reach the driver through the body anyway.

If the engine being behind you made the car quieter, then mid engined sports cars would also be quieter. So, while on the subject of Fiats, would a Fiat 500, for that matter. And, while on the subject of Porsches, a Beetle would also be quieter courtesy of it's engine hanging way out in the slipstream.

BTW Johnie12inch, why did you name yourself after a foot?

The engine sound comes through the rear channel in this car. If you've only got front channel sound then you're not going to hear it in bumper cam.

Also, sound travels at about 760 miles per hour, depending on conditions (wind pressure, altitude)

340 m/s = 761 mph

Yeah that sounds like a good explanation. Also, and incidentally, sound, I believe, travels rather faster in a nicely conductive solid, example, metal. I have an idea it is faster in water too. Also, sound that has reached the atmosphere within the car will travel at about 760mph relative to the car, not relative to the road, and will be unaffected by the car's road speed.

ok for those who suffer the same as I do I have a fix...

you probably wont like it tho... it apears to be a stereo glitch of sorts. in stereo and dolby the sound of all Rear engine cars is non existant or very very quiet. for some reason it thinks that you have surround sound on these settings. If you are just using the speakers on your TV then sound quality really doesnt matter (trust me I have tried this). I just turned it to "mono" so all sound channels were going thru the 2 tv speakers. I now hear all game sounds instead of just the ones that would be coming thru the front left and right chanels.

this translates to a rip-roaring turbo flat six sound for my RuF engines instead of silence :D

give it a try if you are just using the tv speakers. :)
