I've been toying with the idea of running a single-spec series for some time now and I have been searching GTP for series based on the various Porsche Cups. It seems one was held but abandoned mid-season some time ago, so I'm going to take a stab at it.

My proposal is actually for two series, although I am still undecided on whether or not they will run at the same time or if one will run for a few weeks, then be replaced by the other, and the two will switch back and forth (if things are successful). Hence, the poll above.

The descriptions below, as of now, are for if the two series run at the same time, with the '86 Cup serving as the undercard for the Supercup. If the series become seperate, the races of the '86 Cup will be made equal in length to the Supercup.

Ruf Supercup
Based on the Porsche Supercup and utilizing the '00 Ruf RGT. Emphasis will be put on removing weight from the RGT for conversion to a race car, while a select few engine modifications will be allowed to raise the power somewhat. The target weight for the series is 1200kg, while the target power is about 425-450hp. Specifics on what specs the car will run in are still being tested.

Tire selection will be limited to Racing Hards. Suspension setup will be free. Still undecided on whether or not gearboxes will be the close-ratio 6-speed or fully customizable.

Each race will be approximately 70 kilometers in length. A practice and qualifying session will be held for 25 minutes before the race, and a rolling start will be utilized.

Ruf '86 Cup
A retro series based on the beginnings of the Porsche Carrera Cup, this series will utilize the '86 Ruf BTR. Minor weight changes will be made, while the power output will remain nearly stock. This puts the BTR at approximately 1150kg and 400hp.

Tire selection will be limited to Sports Softs. Suspension setup will be free. Gearboxes will be restricted to the close-ratio 5-speed gearbox.

Each race will be approximately 50 kilometers in length. A practice and qualifying session will be held for 25 minutes before the race, and a rolling start will be utilized.

Race Conditions and Championship
Driver aids will be disallowed with the exception of ABS, which is allowed but can only be set to 0 or 1. A pace car will be utilized, with caution periods called for major incidents. All caution periods will be 2 laps: one lap to gather the field, one lap to release the field. Points will follow the Formula 1 system for the Top 10 (25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1), while 2 points will be awarded for pole position.

Calendar
Races will be held on Thursday, as it is my only day off from work. I'm currently looking at a 6-8 race calendar, with emphasis on real world circuits. I'm currently looking to start this series at the start of June, giving a nice full summer in which to run. Session will start about 8pm EST, with the Supercup starting about 930pm EST.

Sooo...none then?

I like the idea, but the race lengths are kinda short imho. Try converting the length to miles and it might be more interesting race. Otherwise, you will not have to make a pit stop whatsoever and the race will be over before its really begun

That being said, I'm interested in the series. I'll keep a look out on it to see if it goes anywhere. A spot race might get a bit more interest though.

Are these two races concurrent or completely separate? Separate days or adjacent times (back to back). A concurrent race might be cool with two classes of cars, but running the race back-to-back would be fun as well.

The poll is for a vote of whether or not they will be run on the same day back to back or seperate series, with one series running the full season, then the other one starting, and vice versa.

The race length is set by the actual Porsche Supercup, they're meant to be rather short races as the drivers don't have full crews for pit stops. Think of it as more BTCC like and less of an endurance. The wearing tires will play a factor, especially in these Rufs.
