There's some speculation Sato might take Villenueve's place at BAR for the Japanese GP.

One would assume that:
- this would be under pressure from Honda
- this would pretty well confirm Sato to partner Button for '04.

Why would Honda push for that? It would be very bad PR.

I think that ifit happened, you would never see Villeneuve at a Formula One track ever again.

I'm struggling to see the merit in such a move. Since BAR aren't a Friday testing team, it would throw Sato in at the deep end, and may well damage his confidence and reputation further.

Nah, can't see it. I can't see any positives in there at all.

There would be absolutely no point in this move whatsoever
Only reason? Japanese driver in a Japanese powered car
As you said Giles Guthrie, since they are not a Friday test team Sato would would most certainly be thrown in at the deep end and i doubt that he would any good whatsoever
As much as I dislike JV, I realy cant see this happening, and if it does, poor decision making from those in power at BAR

not the first time THAT has happened either :irked:

Yes, but now with Pollock, Reynard and Oastler out of the picture, the management structure is much more clear-cut at the team, and David Richards is a clever, rational man.

I take what you're saying Vat_Man, but with the 5-day test at Monza last weekend, and Villeneuve having completed 300 laps, you'd have to think that Sato would have done the lion's share of the running, and then replaced JV for the last three races of the season.

Oh well, in the absence of any concrete fact, we'll just have to sit back and wait to see what happens.

Anyway, I've got to go to work.

what do you guys think of the "5 driver race for a spot" that BAR is thinking of doing at the end of the season. JV will have to run in and win this televised race to have a seat with BAR next season. Personally I think that this would be a major slap in the face of the one driver who has turned down numerous opporunities to race with other teams to stay with this struggling team. they can ***** all they want about his $20 million salary, but the bottom line is that they agreed to pay it and now they're complaining that that is the reason they can't do r&d and build a better car. bull poop.

Given the change in ownership I'd be surprised if Jacques didn't realise the 'golden' age was over for him. I think he's been on 'cruise and collect' mode for a while, might be a chance to see what he's actually capable of,

To put an ex-champion through that you be the ultimate slap in the face, but:

a) in a 5 driver race off, he should clean up any way, i mean, he does have a truck load of experience

b) He should realise he is past it, and should step down with some face

The best thing he could do is blow all the other guys away, then say "I understand that there has been a global economic downturn in the last few years, and that my salary had become an unreasonable burden on the team. I'm prepared to give up 60% of my salary to help make this team I have built successful."

Which would show ability, responsibility and commitment, all of which we know he has, but none of which he is showing at the moment.

Either that, or hang up his helmet.

i couldnt agree more. it might gives the japanese media something to report about, but formula 1 is a business and putting sato in would be damageing for JV, sato, Honda and BAR

He tried to go too jaguar for free but jaguar whats to get paid for the place or to get given a motor...

In Other words Jag whats the pilot to bring ether
A) Money
or
B) Motor

They dont care of experience...

But now all the paddoc is critisizing that move of Jag and they might let Jv a chance

Jag aint that bad... espeacially for qualifiing

No, Jaguar don't need an engine, because their engine is made for them by Cosworth, who are also a Ford Premier Performance Group company. In other words, as far as Jaguar are concerned, the engines are free.

However, Ford are in all kinds of financial trouble, and they certainly could do with a driver who brings sponsorship to the team. Someone like Jos Verstappen, who is reasonably quick, highly experienced, and extensively backed.
