Do you continue to run your computer during a storm or do you shut it down in fear a power surge will fry something? The reason I ask this is I know an equal number of people who are completely paranoid about storms and others who couldn't care less about the weather and continue to run their computers. So, I'm curious as to the general consensus hear concerning storms + computers.

So, vote away. Yay or nay? :)

I have an anti Surge plug so nothing frys. Anyone should invest in these plugs in a row of 4 or 5, it may cost about £20 UK money, but its worth it.

I leave mine on. If you haven't surge protected it, it'll probably fry if it's turned on or not.

I have mine plugged into a surge protected thing.

Well i would say yes, if in the case you do what TVR&Ferrari_Fan suggests - which is buy power surge protector multi socket, my friend never had one and it wasnt his PC that got it but his PS2 sure did, this was about 5 years ago and he only had it for about 3 days when it happened, thunder and lightening storm fried it, he took it back and said it wouldnt switch on and he got another, they didnt know anything about the power surge!

I have insurance on both my laptop, and my monitor/tv, so if i wanted, i could fry them, and pcworld would replace them for me.

It depends on how often you get power surges. If you get them often then it is best to turn them off. However, if you're in a location like where I am, run it forever.

I've only ever have a modem get fried from a storm.

Nothing ever got fried with me ever.

Surge protection so I generally leave it on if someones using it. But if it's just on for no reason I shut it down anyway (something never usually done.).

Jon.
I've never, and i repeat, never had anything fired in a storm.
I'm glad you never had anything fired in a storm.

Ever had anything fried?

If i'm going out, i turn it off. I have a history of overheating laptops. If i'm in the house, i leave it on.

I was just about to edit it aswell

I bought a $60. Belkin surge protector that had a $10,000 replacement warranty. They will replace anything that a surge makes it to up to $10k. That's pretty strong.

That was 3 years ago and still going strong 👍

ive left it on in storms and its done nothing at all, and only once its tripped the whole houses electric. so its basically on whatever the weather

Why would i turn my pc off? thats wasted time i could be using to play counter-strike, or legally aquireing music.

I use a Laptop, so I just unplug it from the mains and hope the storm isn't more than a few hours.
