Funny how everything seems to boil down to the things.

Damn, even if my old fart bones and joints didn't give out after a third of a mile of simple walking I could never afford these fancy socks and gadgets. It should all cost under $25.

I slip in my shoes when I try to run and turn sharply.

Well, he did say it's a geek running blog, so what'd you expect? ;)

I only have $30 shoes, the normal socks I wear to school, and my running clothes. And running can't possibly be good for that guy's iPod's HD.

I'm not going running until I get an mp3 player. I need something to take my mind of the stitches I get. :grumpy:

Well, for casual running, I guess I could see listening to music. But when you're training for competitive running, you just can't listen to music... it takes a lot of energy to concentrate on what you're doing. My coach summed it up quite nicely – Running is 20% physical, 80% mental. And if you have that mental part distracted, then you rely on that 20% physical.

Okay, I'll stop overanalyzing now. :D

I never listen to music when I run - I'm generally too focussed on other things. Things like, mmm, not getting run over!.

I also use a GPS unit when I run - bit simpler than that one, but when you're a stat freak like me who couldn't pace a run to save his life, very useful.

Just on the iPod - can you believe Hard Drive based MP3 players are so popular. I mean, hard drives are unreliable, delicate things that are fragile when house in a stable PC case! Who would want them in a portable little case that's going to get the bejesus kicked out of it!

Why people buy anything other than solid state music players is totally beyond me - I have no need for 25,000 songs at the touch of a button, a couple of albums worth is fine.

That guy has got some nice equipment.

I have a hard drive player. I love the convenience of being able to listen to any song I own at any time I want without having to carry all of my CDs with me. I don't know why you would spend 250 on a player that can hold 256 MB, when you can spend the exact same price and get a 20 GB model.

I've dropped it plenty of times, and I've never had a problem with it. It's plenty stable.

Talk to me in three years time.

I'll have a new one in three years I hope.

My player is a hunk of junk compared to the newer models out there today.
