Runaround Track in GT5? Why Not?

Top Gear. I'm sure most of you watch it, or have seen it once or twice. And I'm sure you've seen (usually) Clarkson thrashing a new Lambo or Ferrari or something like that around the "Top Gear Test Track" as they call it, so then I thought; If the BBC can do it, why can't Gran Turismo? Because the thing I really miss in the GT series is the lack of a place where there is enough space to do whatever you like, sharp turns to test the handling, long straights to test the blistering performance of you newly tuned car, etc, etc. A runaround track, to give it a name. A lot of you may say "Well what about the Nurburgring, it's got a long straight, and enough corners to get yourself dizzy". Of course there's the Nurburgring, but the problem is, it's so narrow, and I suppose you could say, constricting your ability to go completely bonkers in your car. Gymkhana, which is basically the size of your average lunchbox, is nowhere near big enough to start testing the abilities of you, as a driver, and your car.Why, I took my 900bhp Ford GT in there one day and I HATED it. It was so bad it felt like an insult to driving. O.K, well maybe not that bad, but you get the picture. So just imagine having a huge, vast area to defy the laws of physics, and gravity in your car. Of course, I don't mean to put the Top Gear Test Track in GT5 but something similar, at least.
 
I've always wanted to tool around in various cars on Top Gear's test track, but alas, the only game that has it is RACER, which is a mediocre, unfinished, glitchy home-brew sim for the PC.

A similiarly "open yet defined" area would be a great addition to any GT-style game. By "open yet defined," I mean large and wide, yet more...interesting than a simple, huge rectangle of pavement. A copy-cat airfield along the lines of Top Gear's Dunsfold Airfield would be perfect. ;)
 
An airstrip would be a good proving ground, especially a decent sized one with a few on/off ramps and a taxiway and tarmac (the area they park the aircraft in). It would also be a good template to set up a custom motorkhana track. The track editor would allow you to place concrete pylons, tyre walls and witches hats to build up your own track on that airfield.
 
That would be pretty sweet. I would love to fly down that strip in a Saleen S7 twin turbo competition.......woooooooooo
 
How do people get these great ideas;
Win alot of races,
Earn money,
Buy a abonned airstrip,
create your own track,
It's like you're very own test track :drool:,
Share with the rest of the world

I just thougt why not make it possible to get off the airstrip and terrorize the neighbours :P Like free roam, but I think that will be to much :D

yeah i was thinkin of puttin that bit in it as well; how cool would it be to create your own track??? i'm getting ideas already......
 
There's lots of open, vacant land around an airstrip too - lots of unpaved land... For those who love rallying... custom track builder... Mmm, fun.

Often an airfield/runway will also have a perimeter road - a nice, long customised Nurburgring.

How would it be if part of the game was that you could use an airstrip for top speed runs/400m runs etc, but somewhere down the track you could buy your own airfield in the game? Just a thought.
 
a big area to fool around and do donuts, not bad. If there was a surrounding dirt/snow/ice area that'd be cool too.
 
Are you all forgetting the 'Test Course' from the past few GT's?

6.43 miles of long wide straights - enough space to do whatever you want to on.

The test course is narrow compared to an airstrip.
The test course is a very good track for top speed I Guess.
But a airstrip is more fun and even more if you can customise it.
 
I'm all for customable tracks 👍 - sadly, i doubt even the PS3 has the ability to render custom-made tracks to GranTurismo quality effectively. 👎
