running into some problems with my Th8rs shifter

xbox is a joke
So when I'm playing GT5, it looks like the bottom 4 gears on this work just fine. but for some reason the top 3 (not so much for first gear, but 3rd, 5th, and 7th) do not engage properly. When I clutch + shift to 3rd for example, it shifts to 1st on the screen while I'm obviously on third. To fix this I basically slide back to Neutral and clutch + shift to 3.

Same thing with 5th except on the screen it reads 5th as third. 7th as 5th, and so on.

Is there a software update that I need to do to it?? or do I just have a defective one and I should just return it?

Also, when I'm in the main menu of my PS3 it keeps acting funny. Like you know how when you hold left on the D-pad it scrolls automatically to the left? well it no longer does that, I need to keep tapping the left d-pad if I want to get all the way over to the left of my XMB.

when I unplug the shifter it seems to work perfectly so I know it's the shifter

edit: it seems like the "O" button is one of the main problems... it's either disabling the button to be used in the game or it's being annoying and automatically backing out of stuff. soooo weird lol

Plug the shifter into a PC. Then...

Download this: http://ts.thrustmaster.com/download/accessories/pc/wheels/exe/TH8RS/TH8_RS_Tool_v1.0.7.0.rar

Run it and follow the instructions to configure your gears. Post back and let us know how it turned out. I set my gears to 1/3rd of goes to the 1, 3, 5, 7 and the middle 1/3rd is all neutral, button 1/3rd is 2,4,6,R

Try that out.

Great thanks for the link! I'm in the middle of doing it now.
but I personally like to have the whole middle to be neutral because I have the habit of sliding it back and forth while driving to make sure it's in neutral. Atleast that's how I am in real life haha

Yes, the whole middle should be neutral. :) Sorry if I slipped up when writing that... It should break down like this:

Top 1/3rd: 1,3,5,7
Middle 1/3rd: Neutral area
Bottom 1/3rd: 2,4,6,R

Ohh gotcha by those "1/3" I thought you meant "gears 1 to 3" :P
my bad haha.
but okay I think I calibrated it, lets pop it back in the PS3 and hope for the best ><

That is correct. I'd move "up" that bottom third some, but it's up to you. It sets where the gears actually "engage"

As well, now you can see the shifter is working properly... You see what I did there? :p

I think you need to do the "Fine Tune" and apply it to change it, though I can't remember. It gets saved on the shifter itself so it's used no matter where you plug it in.

ohhh I didn't know that's how you fine-tune, by moving the bars up!! wow yeah that's fantastic! exactly what I was looking for then. I lowered the top bar JUST a little bit and moved up the bottom bar by a good amount haha.

thanks a lot for this man, people like you really make this community a fantastic place :) I've never been let down here

No problem :D I never like to see people having trouble with their expensive stuff. It's especially satisfying when the fix is something simple so let's hope this does it for ya.

Yup it sure did fix it :P
I was - close to contacting amazon and returning it for a new one, you saved me the hassle bro, thanks a lot!

Interesting... It must have just been out of whack from the get go. Have fun and play around with the gear positions. It can really help with mis-shifts :)

Glad to help!

Your a great guy Basher! Always helping someone out! 👍
I knew about this but have never fine tuned. I will be doing that today!

Here's a clip of my TH8RS with Mr Bashers short shift shaft

It makes a lot of difference to the feeling when changing gear

Echo that! Very helpful indeed! I'll be ordering one of those soon myself!

I highly recommend doing it, it really improved manual shifting for me in GT5.

Nice video! Really like the way you recessed the shifter into the console, great job!
