ok, firstly, I dont want to take full credit for this, I'm going to give credit where credit is due

so, to start off, I was looking for some decent settings for my 240SX this afternoon, after struggling to create my own.
I drift with the D-pad on the DS2 controller, so crab-walking RWD cars with the outrageously slippery settings recommended by some drifters here is a bit beyond what my reflexes can handle. And I'm not a huge fan of Sheron's "Tune it to the Max! then put T7's on the Rear" type of mentality.

Anyways, after a few minutes of searching I stumbled across this post of Exhaust_Note's:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=1212726&postcount=2

...so I tried his settings and they worked like a charm for me. The car steps out predictably, can be controlled at full lock with careful throttle modulation and blips on a DS2, and doesnt swap ends to quickly to recover it if you do get a bit too much oversteer.

So then i started trying out this method of modification on other cars.

Parts:
tune output up to approx 250~300hp as you see fit (*some exceptions)
semi-racing suspension
sports brakes
triple plate clutch
racing flywheel
carbon driveshaft
semi-racing tranny
1.5 Way LSD
Sim tires (of course, none of this T8/T7 stuff here)
Stage 1 Lightening (I found that more than this messes up the weight distribution too much)

Settings:
not much to do here,
set the ride height as low as permitted
turn off driver aids (ASM and TCS to 0)
you can play with the camber if you like, but i didnt find it necessary

I've tried this method of tuning and setup on many different rwd cars, and it continually gave me great drift setups.
It worked particularily well for me on: S13/240SX, S14, S15, Skyline GTS-t Type M, FC and FD RX-7's, AE-86 (regular and SS)
there's many cars i havent tried it on yet, but I'm sure it would at least offer a great point to start tuning from, if nothing else

in each case, the car felt completely under me, i wasnt fishtailing down the straights or through the grass to try and exit a corner. It behaved and reacted to input exactly as i expected it to. I didnt have to force the vehicle to step out, it automatically did so on turn in with subtle feint motion, or a quick stab of the brakes.

ok, now about that exception i mentioned above:
i dont find it necessary to tune a AE-86 beyond 200hp, i left mine at 170, and it was ample hp to toss the thing around with. With the SS version, i kept the engine as delivered, and did no lightening. I just did the necessary drivetrain mods + sims to it.

ya, thats it
Thanks for your 240SX settings Exhaust_Note 👍

It is I didn't know this :dunce:
Thanks for posting this TankSpanker 👍

you're kidding right? I mean, it's just leaving the car stock or with little added horsepower and keeping the settings stock? Sim tires? NEW? not really...Alright then...

Its mostly just putting the sim tires on... I can drift almost anything with sim tires on it... with it stock...

This is just silly... They're decent settings, but not perfect... For one, you shouldn't ever lower the car all the way down, as that will cause the vehicle to bottom out, making it difficult to control, especially in a drift situation... There's absolutely no reason not to get a Full LSD... Semi racing suspension???... Semi racing transmission???...Not to mention, You should always lighten the car all the way... It's a common misconception that you need a bit of weight to help with weight transfer... This is absolutely false... The lighter the vehicle is, the easier it will be to control... Period...

Everything else is pretty old news...

well Df gave me some of his RWD's settings but its all the same

"DR"....

wow, look at all that negativity
ok, maybe i over-embelished a little bit in the topic,
and maybe i played a bit of the captain-obvious role in my first post
i do that

nontheless, the settings helped me develop a few cars that i had no luck with before. The changes arent drastic as has been pointed out a few times now, but it was enough to make the cars more manageable for me.
And I'm sure if people are just getting started drifting, these settings would give them a decent car to learn on.
I dont expect you senior guys to get much out of this post, particularily you DR. I saw all the great vid's you've released as SilviaDrifter, its obvious you dont need the help.

and to reply to DR, why not get a semi-racing suspension, transmission, or 1.5LSD
sure its not as customizable, but if they're working, why change them? if its not broke, dont fix it. same ideology
And yes its true, a full weight reduction is better; its quicker, its easier to control, you can change direction faster and without scrubbing as much speed in a lighter vehicle, etc etc
But, if you run over curbs or drop a wheel in the dirt now and then, as i have a tendency to do, then i find that a fully lightened car gets too loose for me to hang on to with my DS2. Those are just my own feelings. You guys with wheels, or who never ever hit the curbs and scenery, may see this in a different light.

Yeah, but completely dropping the suspension only makes controlling the car harder. Why? No travel in teh suspension - you bottom the car out. Maybe if you had stiffened the springs way up, but you haven't done that.. so you are actually creating a negative affect on the cars handling by dropping it...

nobody is being negative, however everything you posted as new wasn't new. That's all.

OK, "if it aint broke don't fix it" model really doesn't work well in drifting. Especially in video game drifting, specifically with suspension. Your suspension is the most determining factor of how your car is going to drift outside of tire selection. Why wouldn't you want to have the most customizable suspension availible? Now, I understand if you want to learn with something not so flexible to develop skills and I respect that. However, once the basics are learned, it really doesn't make any sense to not use the best of what's availible to improve your skills.

If you're dropping off into the dirt or hitting scenery on a regular basis, that's a problem with technique. You line, throttle control, countersteer, etc., not your settings.

So keep practicing. I understand how you feel since I was new to drifting just 7 months ago, but you have to realize that using your settings is holding you back in the long run.

BTW, DR uses a DS2 and still gets those long smooth drifts.(the bumb! :dopey: )

I got here to late to cover anything that hasn't already been said. :(

Well anyways, you guys ever think that we've coverd almost ever aspect of this game. I found my self thinking that yesterday. What else is there to do?
