Great battle last night while racing my RX-8, but in the end the Elise's speed through the back stretch trumped my RX-8's speed on the straights. I made a few mistakes though, missed a shift going into the tunnel and that was enough to give up the lead. Tried to follow the Elise on the final lap and didn't have enough cornering grip and gave up 2nd place. I'm wondering if I can get more grip up front or if the weight was the issue. The Elise was WOT through turn 2 and I had to lift off to prevent understeer. I also went wide on the right-left before the tunnel and had to lift off again exiting the tunnel. ...but both of the Elises had wings. That should have helped them in turn 2 and is likely the reason I was pulling on them on the straights (you only get downforce at 450pp if you sacrifice horsepower).

Thanks! Judging from your avatar I gather you are a rotary fan as well.

I love races where I get out in front and have to defend my lead to someone faster...provided that the faster driver is also a clean driver. I had to rip the mic off on lap 3 because other drivers were jabbering on about what was going on at the back of the pack and I was trying real hard to keep that lotus behind me while still going fast enough to keep him from doing something stupid. I need more practice at this track though. It's clear that I could use a little work with my brake points as well as the chicane and I'm wondering if some changes to camber could make my RX8 stick a little better through turn 2.

LOL, my 91 RX-7 needs some work. The tail comes out mid-corner and I haven't figured out why yet. I've only done a few dozen laps on it though. This RX-8 only has about 5 laps of tuning done on it and it behaves so much better (and revs higher).

That was some really nice racing, that RX-8 is a beast! If you don't mind my asking, what kind of times are you getting with the RX-8 on the Mountain? The only reason you lost (IMO) was because the Lotuses could hold a tighter line into the corners. And what happened to the Lamborghini, it stuck with you for the first lap or two and just disappeared.

By the way, the song, needed more cowbell. Lol, I like your musical preferences, too many times I see these replays with hardcore rap, and I just can't watch the vid.

I'm in love with the RX-8 (this week at least). I can squeeze out 1:29.8xx at Trial Mountain once I get comfortable but typically I run 1:30.5 to 1:31.5. The car is very composed and easy to recover after lighting up all 4 tires. It also screams at 9,000 rpm.

Last night on the same track I had some tougher competiton. An Acura was running paces with me and using my draft to keep running up beside me. While we were battling an NSX Concept worked his way up from last place and passed me at the start/finish line. There was nothing I could do about it. He used my draft to slingshot by. As fast as the RX-8 is, the NSX is still the best car at 450pp. I watched his replay and he was all over the track but that car is unjustly quick.

The Lamborghini? He races with a game pad. 'nuf said. He knows how to tune cars and make them quick but given 5 laps he will surely botch one of them.

As for my music, I listen to rock, but YouTube flags videos that have popular songs, so I try to pick something obscure and upbeat. The track above was Corrosion of Conformity. Would you prefer GT5's smooth jazz?

Nah, I like hearing good songs that I've never heard of, don't fold to the pressure! And I know what you mean about the DS3, I don't have the simoleons to get wheel. It doesn't take long to use the DS3 decently, but to use it well take a while, and it's the opposite for the wheel.

No Elises in this video but its from the same evening. Jimmy in his Lambo was tough to get around. His tail popped out at the end of lap 1 which hit my nose sending me flying into the grass. It took 2 more laps to catch him again because I had to battle with a Mugen Civic. Once I got around, he dropped onto the apron and lost his grip. You can see him spin out in my rear view. I'm not sure if I would've caught Jack in his NSX if there was another lap. Those NSX's are just too fast for this class.

PS, music by The White Stripes. If you don't like it, fast forward to lap 2 and the music is over and you can listen to the screaming rotary engine.
