RX8 Concept Power Loss While Turning

I completed the Manuf race for the RX8 and I noticed a weird behavior. When I turn I loose the ability to accelerate or provide any power to the engine. This seems to happen only when I am turning 50%+ but not under a mild turn. I upgraded the suspension but didn't make any changes to the default settings.

My only thought is that the wheels are rubbing in the wheel well but I wouldn't expect that with the defaults.

Any thoughts?

The only way I can maintain speed is to turn <50% or take all turns as a series of straights (if you know what I mean) to maintain speed.

Thanks in advance

Do you have the driving aids on? if you do take them out, the same problem used to happen to my skyline R34 N1. Once i took them problem solved.

p.s.:

warch out for wheels spinning

All I can say is ....duh!!! :dunce:

I never thought of that. I'll check tonight.

Thanks

for me my best performance is when the traction control is on and ASM is off

That is usally the first thing I do, but I sometimes forget. Of course that is always the last thing I think of.

keep yer revs up in the rx8....there is not that much tourque on the low mid end....but if yer revs are up you should pull through no problem...

It's because of the ASM. It makes lots of cars want to drive in a straight line if they're going quicker than 50 mph for some reason. ASM off = fun for the whole family!

Or something...

It's not only because of the ASM. The non-concept RX-8 does it too, even with all driving aids off. I was running an OLR comp in the RX-8 at Tsukuba, and in all the tight, 2nd-gear crawlers, the car would not accelerate until I unwound the wheel. The revs would not rise no matter where the throttle was.

It also is like that in the MINI and other cars in the license tests, but of course there's no control over the driving aids there. But I guarantee that the aids were off in my RX-8 at Tsukuba.

does no one read my posts.....no tourque = no pickup....rx8 lacks low end tourque....its not a bug...just the nature of the renisis rotary....keep the revs up 👍

No, I'm sorry, that doesn't explain this situation. I'm well familiar with the power curve of the RX-8. It also happens at high lock angles with a number of the lower-powered FWD cars.

DOH! maybe since you are at full lock you er...might fall out of the torque band?....I haven't had problems....well hope you find a solution

No big suprise in that, its a real world situation that can commonly occurs when you apply too much steering lock to FWD cars (or RWD cars with low torque). The front wheels are at a severe angle, but the engine has insufficent torque to overcome the tyres grip limit and the engine lacks torque to 'pull' the car in the direction the tyres are facing, the end result is that the car is very reluctant to do anything. When you unwind the steering lock the problem resolves itself (sometimes very suddenly).

It has happened to me a couple of times in my Celica, with its massive (LOL) 128 ft/lbs of torque at 4,200 rpm. Its fine if you feed the power in gradually, as in low speed parking manouvers; but if you have turned into a tight corner and are a little to eager to get back on the throttle, before the front wheels are straight enough then you can enounter the above problem.

I have had this happen in a number of cars, the vast majority of them FWD cars, but also a number of lower power RWD cars as well.
