S-2 license is simply beating me hands down

I have all the regular/int'l and rally licenses so far and I am at 53% of the game. I decided to stop racing and get the S-Licenses out of the way ... big mistake. I would rather drink ink then run the Seattle course in that frickin GT.

S-1 took close to 40 tries but once I got my line memorized and put together that 'perfect bronze' run, got my medal then ran to S-2. That was actually three days ago but it seems like months! How can S-2 be such a witch?

I have watched the demo over and over and even the first Chicane is nuts. You have to keep such a perfect line through this course and I have had to restart after just 15 seconds soooo many times I am losing count. I really wish these S courses had that Blue racing line that the early license tests had...at least that would give you an idea of where to aim entering and exiting these corners.

I tried to go back to finishing out the Pro league but knowing I have S-2 hanging over my head has really sapped my enthusiasm for racing. RoadHazzard has dropped some great advice on getting started on this test but I am in a life and death struggle! My rant is more about my frustration at the game developers than anything else. I have gotten within 1.5 seconds but we all know that is still soooo far away. Really causing me to assess the possibilty of not getting past this test...Do I just just step away from the game and accept defeat?

Major respect given to all you guys who get Golds on the S-Licenses...that might be the greatest video game feat since getting the Belt in Mike Tyson's Punchout in 1984 on the old nintendo.

Off to beat my head in the wall some more this afternoon......

If you haven't already done so, run S-3 through S-7 to get them out of the way and build your confidence back up.

If S-2 is frustrating you, move on to something else and calm down. You will not beat it if you are busy being upset. One thing that seemed to help me, especially when I was having trouble with the first chicane, was to just run the car straight into the wall...a few times. "OK, fine. Take that!" :banghead: Maybe silly, but it helped!

Good luck, dude. And try to spare the ink! :drink:

Also, If you have already won the GT40 race car. Go to arcade and run it at Seattle II to really learn the track in a fluid manner.

most of the S tests are a lot easier than the second, IMO.
do them, then go back to 2.
8 isn't fun, though.

Yeah, there for a while S-2 was the Gold that I thought was impossible. You already mentioned one of the turns to find time on... that first chicane. You can almost get through there on the gas, but setup is paramount to successful exit, and then if you do it, you forget to slow for the next turn in time it seems. That's what I did anyway. I found a lot of time on the two drifty lefts in a row, the second one being the left just before bouncing around the downhill section. If you hit the brakes at the right time on those turns, you can drift on the gas all the way through both of those turns, but you have to drag the nose precariously close to the wall to do it... and sometimes it just doesn't work right and you end up into the wall on the right.

Keep in mind that the GT40 has plenty of ass, so it's better to brake early and gas out, than to try and keep speed all the way through some of the turns on this test.

Good luck.

Hey, tez.. I'm workin on a post right now, but it'll be a while before I finish...

Keep workin at it in the meantime, and keep them spirits high. You will never be able to do what you can't visualize!

Have a great drive!

When I was only playing the game for about 2 weeks, it took me a crapload of time to beat the S-2. I got bronze, and it was plenty.

Yesterday, I wanted to see if my skills have improved a little, and now I am comming very close to silver, and always getting a bronze.

There is a trick to getting another good second of the clock. On the first turn (a corckscrew or whatever) enter it on third gear, don't shift it up to fourth, let it over rev! :D

This will use the engine as a part of the breaking system, and with a few tries, you will be able to pass throught the corner at 100 mph.

I did it myself, and It made me ultra happy.

4 days after my journey into Seattle Hell began (close to 6 hours of race time) I can proudly say that I finally medaled this track with a glorious time of 1:34.993 Yes my friends that is 7/1000ths of a second and I nearly woke up my entire neighborhood. The baby screamed, the wife yelled and I could not care a less. However, the strangest calm settled over me minutes later as I began to reflect on Super License Test Number Two...

I honestly have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this battle of will. My first few laps on this test sent me running to the hills. After an what seemed like 100 tries and an hour deep, I wrote it off as 'silly'. "There is no way I'll ever make that Bronze time".... I began mumbling obscenities to myself in hour three. In hour four, I honestly tried to walk away from the game. However the pull was strong and my addiction festered. By hour five I went to the well and watched the demo with RoadHazzard's notes dancing in the periphery of my subconscious. DolbyTone's words of wisdom related to the two swinging lefts seemed to inspire the racing gods and I began to insert my will on this hallowed pavement. I was getting so close...1/2 a second, 1/4 second...and I knew my time was near.

I set the controller down, did ten pushups, kissed my sleeping 13-month old baby, and eased back into the PS2 chair with a clear mind and spirit. Two tries later I crossed the checkered line with slivers of seconds between ecstasy and defeat.

Oh my :) ...that was FUN! Feels so good to accomplish something like that, especially when I was minutes away from taking GT3 out of the system for good. Thanks for the help and words of encouragement. I was ready to jump but you walked me back from the cliff....Hazzard, Dolby, Quattro, Gil, j2s, Rumple...

And you guys that get GOLDS...MUCH RESPECT!

Totally cool man. Your retrospective reminds me of my battle with the Complex String Regulation Time Trial... oh the agony and the extasy! I'm just sad I wasn't able to be there and watch the magic happen. I earnestly believe that the hardest is behind you, and from now on out you shouldn't have too many problems getting medals on your tests... assuming you didn't already get them.

Good job man.
