Hi folks... I was off for the last wek and I concentrated on GT^for all that time from 9:00 to midnight. I finished all the races including enduros (each for twice at least) and rallies.
I also got the IA license that I dreaded so much. Now I got stuck where I cannot get the S license. I could only finish the Apricot Hill course with the Speedster. The rest ? I almost puked from seeing the "TIME EXPIRED" screen over and over again.
Now I have 69,7% complete, a 75% win ratio, 83 cars and a fat wallet with 10 M's in it. I have the Polyphony 01 and 02 by three of each. (You can easily imagine that I know nothing as challenge where I can introduce them into the race. I ache to grab the B787 Mazda< but I could not get thru the S licenses yet.
Now for my question : I foolishly by mistake, instead of clicking "Change Car" clicked Sell and absent mindedly sold my MB CLK Touring Car. Is there another way to grab it back again ?
I'd be grateful if anyone has an idea.
Finally my best wishes go to all you friends for a wonderful new year, away from the least of all the crap we suffered in 2001. (This one was a terrible one in all aspects !!!) :(

Hi,

I've only completed three of the S License tests so far, but I have started getting better by doing two things -

(1) Study the demo to see the line and speed that the AI takes - it may surprise you at times.
(2) Set ghost updating to <on>. Then when I fall behind my previous best ghost at any stage I immediately select the <try again> option. This way, as long as I am ahead of the ghost I know that I'm on track to do a better lap than the previous one.

I hope I'm not teaching you to 'suck eggs' but this has helped me so far!

Have a happy new year

Yup!!

You can't study the demo enough!!
Use the "incar" wiew, and try to remember when it brakes/accelerates. (Look for lamp posts, signs, shadows etc. - but I guess you know that)

Eventually you will beat the damn thing..

You don't have to take the tests in a row.

- So maybe you should give that GT40 a rest. (hard as hell)

If you get too frustrated, leave the game. Maybe even for days! You'll be surprised when you come back, and beats the s#it out of those S licence tests.

Don't give up - it can be done!!

Sold the Benz eh? ..well, you can't win it back in ANY race!

if you didn't save you could just re-load the game..but if you did, you'd need one of those gameshark-things!

I'm afraid I did save because I had about 75 cars and some 8 Mills which I could not risk dumping...
I choose not to use those shark things because I like to pull fair games instead of fooling the console. If I have a deent car I go for it but if not, well... Auf Wieder Sehen Mein Liebe to my Benz CLK DTW...

And a final question to all you folks :

Which S test do you hate the most ? I personally hate the Trueno on the wet Stage 5. After all them F1 cars with some 320 Kph on the same track, I suffer terminal boredom with 75 Kph with no decent accel or EVEN SPINS with that hulk of steaming $**t !!

Also it has annoyed me that you watch the demo. The car in the demo whacks and slams the barriers, exceeds the rumble strip into the sand trap or grass for miles but when you even tread on the grass you fail !!!

Hmm. Which S test did I hate the most? Probably the GT-40 one, because I kept hitting the barriers at the first chicane and at the slow right hander after the climb.

I only ever used the demos a couple of times, it was most useful in S-8, where I learned that the demo took the course almost exclusively in 3rd gear!

My biggest hint is to build up your apex speeds: everything comes from this. So if you're using the demo, look at the cornering speeds, and everything else kinda follows from there. If you try and corner too fast, you're off or you have to back off big style, and if you corner too slow, well, you're just slow! ;)

Taking a break is a good idea also, but try and focus - don't think "Oh, I was sh**e in S-3, so I'll have a go at S-4 - you'll not get anywhere that way. Try and build up a lap, and you'll find that it all comes together.

Oh, and use manual transmission. This from the bloke who had so much success with MT in the S-tests that he's working on using it in all the races now too!

Oh, and one more thing: re grass/sand etc: two wheels OK, more than two wheels bad. But watch, some of the sand traps are bigger. In particular, you can't straightline the double-kink after the looping left-handed turn 5 at Midfield.

Hey, I did the wet stage 5 in the trueno after a couple of times. That was my first car in the game. I was just used to it. To pick up speed quicker use the L2 button to shift the auto transmission, believe me it works and it is not a cheat. As you go, keeping your finger on L2 watch the tach go to the red line out of the corner of your eye, the next gear number will flash also to help you. Release the L2 and press again. You should be in the next higher gear. Keep your finger on the L2 till it does it again. That is how you can kick a$$ in an auto transmission. Also this will help you in the S-license because it works. After you do this a while trying the manual transmission should be a snap. Once I get the S-license I will try the manual transmission(I only have three to go Laguna, Seattle, and the final). Hope you get it dude! Have fun and Happy Hunting!
Troy Lawson:burnout:

I hated the GT40 test and the monaco test the most! I got the trueno test on my 2nd try so I didn't really had the time to get frustrated over the trueno:D

The tests are actually quite easy. But I really hate Laguna Seca, Seattle Reverse they really suck!!

Me a nearly 13 year old did all licenses apart from S license in just under 2 hours of purchasing the game!!

I'm just waiting on my 17 year old brother to do the S Licenses in Mannual because he's the man at mannual.

On his second attempt he's 8 seconds off bronze but this time he will wip arse!! :p on his 4th go he's 1 second off and getting pissed!! F this and F that. Very usual occurance!

To get the tests just use practise makes perfect. Even if a month later you still aint got it keep trying. Just leave the game for about a week and forget all about what you know about the track and you will do well.

Thats all from me!

I just picked up my 48th gold license yesterday. One of the hardest is the Viper in the S-license. I played almost 3 hours to get it to gold.
Here are some steps in mind:
1) 2 wheels on the grass don't fail you. So use that space in cornering
2) Drive the line that is the shortest on the road. Use the smallest radius.
3) Most of the time, the gear flasher tells you the truth. You need to slow down to that speed to turn.
4) The white and red sidewalk on your inner side of a corner helps you turn when you have 2 wheels on it.
5) Yeah, the demo replay. Use it. Both in-car view and outside view. Watch its speed, driving line and memorize them.

this is for those who are looking for Gold licenses.
6) Pass the license once, watch your ghost car compare to the demo replay. See where you can improve at where the ghost car is behind. The demo is not always the fastest at any point but it does show you the trick.
7) Get use to racing with your own ghost car. That means you have to look through it.

My ghostcar is gone permanently... The options are checked as "update automatically" both from within the tests and from the main options screen but the ghostcar simply doesn't show up...

Also a piece of victory : I grabbed the S2 (Seattle reverse with F40 Ford)
Now I am treating myself to all the aggrevation of the MX Eunos (S3) !!!
It is SOOOOOOOOOO slow !!!!

Take care pals...

The demo's really helpful on this one - especially the section through the rocks there - watch how it uses the kerbs to maintain momentum.

I want to get my ghost car back but as I stated previously, it is permanently lost and despite I did all the settings to get it back (options -on- and such) but it never came back. Neither in the tests nor in the time attacks...
Could you help me please ?
Thanks

This one is quite easy though, since there's so much time to be made up with very small corrections. Take as much kerb as you can on the left-right-left sweepers that start the lap, this will shorten your distance, and keep the speed up. The only other corners you need to worry about are the downhill right-left combination following the sweepers at the bottom of the hill: it's easy to lose too much speed at the right-hander, or not enough at the left.

Work with the car: smooth is king! ;)

Incredible but I grabbed S 3, 4 and 5 all in a row within only half an hour !!

Especially the Pennzoil GTR was fun, I grabbed the silver at the second try !!! I couldn't believe it myself ! I felt as if the CPU helped me out !!! The horribly hard handling car -I have one and that's why I know- handled like velvet ths time!!! (glitch or what ???)

The Trueno; wonder of wonders, didn't annoy me at all on the SS5 Wet...

I dunno but I can guess the CPU is doing me favors... I cannot be all THAT good !!??!

:D

You're welcome!

I found the Pennzoil Skyline to be quite a nice car to drive. Will definitely race it when I win one.

You wanna pass that S-License thing?

Here's a TIP:

:p For S-2, there's a series race where you could win a GT40 race car.. (figure out what!)..
Then use that car in SEATTLE II FREE RUN and run the road again and again using different techniques, drive lines, different braking points, and study your lap times...
The good thing here is, you don't have to worry about FAILING!!! Of course, you must not modify the car...

Master the course and when you think you're fast enough... or when you're averaging a 1'33"00 lap time... you are GOOD TO GO! :p :p :p

Do the same thing for the other S-licenses... i.e., Acquire the car.. then go to FREE RUN.

I have only one S license left to go... The last one of course, the Monte Carlo with the GT-One...

I do as good as 1:36:193 but cannot do any better !!!

Weird though but the biggest time lost is with the very first bend !!! (The one where you turn before you start running uphill.)

Incredible as it may sound but I managed silver with the $#%&*é Griffith 500 at the SS11... :cheeburga

Keep em thumbs up for me so I can grab that damned S please...

Ya, if you can't do it right at the first bend, you are losing big time all the way to the top of the hill.
A little tip for you. You got to time it for the brake and steer at the gear flasher. I use automatic transmission. The gear will flash on you when you are running too high. Try to steer and aim at the wall just before the curve on your right while braking and bringing the tail out a bit. Gently press on the gas in the mid way of the bend. Eventually, you will learn how to slide in the corner.

Getting all golds jeeze thats hard. I have 2 more on B license. I just do them when I get extremely bored of long championships. eg F1, Dream Car, Polyphony etc

I finally managed to get the S licence and with a silver thru the Monaco with the GT-One... (Incredible, but I tried for two hours straight !!!)

With all that steam, I hit the Pro Dream Car Champ to find that there was a bunch of crummy LM cars which pit steadily evey three laps !!! (The Imprezza LM car same as mine pitted every TWO laps !!! :thatsodd: )

I was expecting much much more after all the so hard S licenses but the races are no harder than the other Pro series... Same stupid AI drivers, same dumb strategies... It's an overall disappointment for me to find that I was battling the S for nothing significant...

Anyways, When I finish th,is game it'll be time for the GT4 release so I'll have enough experience to race there... :blackeye:

I got thru the Pro Dream Car , Like The Wind, Polyphony Digi-Cup and F1 Championships but I still am STUCK with the damned Yaris (Vitz) and Elise Cups !!!!!!

I am at the brink of smashing the PS2 with a sledgehammer !!! 😈 😈

Puulllleeeezzzeee gimme an idea of ettings to beat those damned champships ......

Hi, I'm new to the forums. I just completed my S license on Monday. I found that the ghost was the key to winning. If I would not have been racing against it I would not have know when I was ahead of my best time. I also found that on Test-8 at Cote De Azur the only way to win that thing is with a manual tranny. Don't waste your time with an automatic. I treied it for four days with the auto. then switched to the manual and got it in 4 tries.

In order to get the ghost into effect, you have to choose "exit race" once after the end of a race and then just start the race from the next screen and it'll be there. If the auto-update is on, it'll automatically keep your best ghost up.

As far as the Vitz series, there are very few races in that which require anything more than acceleration, so gear your car for short sprints and you'll do great. I'm talking 4.200 final drive ratio or steeper with the gears closer to sport (I think I used a 23 preset) than racing.

The Elise Cup... go with a Motorsport Elise and seriously tune the suspension to get rid of that hideous oversteer. I concentrated on springs and brakes in order to keep the beast tamed and it seemed to work very well. If you want an easier fix, you can just up the TCS a lot, but you'll lose some acceleration and speed.

Good Luck!
