I like Corvettes, a lot. If you don't, that's okay. I've always known the stereotypes associated with Corvette owners don't apply to me, and that I've wanted one because they're fast, look good, sound good, and are probably the most expensive sports car I'll ever be able to afford.

But today one co-worker of mine, a cool old guy who races his own dragster, sold another co-worker of mine a Corvette. This new Corvette owner is short, bald, effeminate, annoying, and middle-aged. In one fell swoop every negative stereotype of the Corvette owner has been fulfilled and it bugs me.

At least it's an '84 with pimp-stripes on the side and an oxidized hood.

I think the corvette has turned into an absolutely amazing car. I didnt like the first gen, but after that, it has turned into everything a sports car could hope to be. As far as expensive amazing-performance cars go, the corvette is pretty much unmatched in terms of performance vs price. Wonderful car...except for the mid 80s ones :D

there are stereotypes of corvette owners? I never knew this (I just thought we all lived in my hometown). Seriously, there must be 1 out of every 2 people who drives in my area owns a vette. It's crazy, but I can see why we're addicted to the vette strain...

:odd: I don't have time to battle words with a witless woe, I have to type an essay and define 30 vocab words (on the computer; I wish I weren't such a slacker :banghead:)

Gimme one of these babies anyday.

how about jaguar xkr i think it is? isn't the price about the same around 119?

i wonder if you guys have noticed that i love my euro's (just not the bimmers/benzes/porsches)

I'm lost too. Although it looks like some obscure song lyric reference.

Back to topic. I think it is sad that people make stereotypes out of drivers of particular cars. Sure, there are the odd egotists who go buy a sports car to look flashy and try prove something. There are probably more enthusiast-types that would like a sports car for the thrill of it, but due to family commitments and a budget, end up buying an older vette or an older porsche, and get lumped in with the aforementioned egotists.

As Mile said, sad but true.

I dont believe in Peter Pan, Frankenstein or Superman. :odd:

PS: Thanks for that Klos.

Also, a Vette lover.
I have to be content with the 1:18 version by Testor's I'm afraid.
While I'm fond of the C4 and C5 variants, I have the softest spot in my heart for the '67, Followed closely by the '63 and '64.

You'd think by now he'd have noticed that Metallica are a band and not a person... Bands are collective nouns and are thus plural, so his signature should read "Metallica Rock!" and not "Metallica Rocks!"

My favourite Corvette is the Mako, although I like the '82 version too.

emad - XK8 is £60,000, XKR is £80,000, but the chassis can't cope with 400hp, so it sucks. A Corvette could be bought in the UK for a little under £40,000, before Chevrolet pulled out of the market.

I'd rather have a Noble :D

Don't let it bug you. You'll get a corvette anyway. I think that in a way you make the car, so it won't be the same as when someoneelse got it.

I'm a poor student, lost my glasses whilst drunk last weekend, so I'm bout to order new ones on a cheap site. The prob is just that they have like 15 different spectacles to choose from and a guy in my class just bought a pair of the ones I'll prolly like. Anyway I decided to get them anyway because I think they are not the same on me as they are on him... Person * Item= outcome.

Therefore I think you should get the corvette anyway of what the public (or your)image of a C-owner is.. You make a contribution to the whole with the car - look beyond your stereotypes.

And if you won't I'll give you a tip of my future baby which I've been yearning for a long time (without the vinyl top). I will get one of these when I can afford it. Mabye it's something for you:

Jaguar XKR coupe = $81300
Jaguar XKR convertible = $86300
Chevrolet Corvette coupe = $43700
Chevrolet Corvette convertible = $50700

I've driven them both - in fact, my girlfriend has an '03 XKR convertible - and I much prefer the Jaguar. But then, the price is nearly double - so the Corvette, then.

I actually strongly dislike both cars in both forms - another horribly unappealing segment is 'coupe over $40000' - just imagine the competiton: Lexus SC430, XK8, XKR, Corvette, Acura NSX, Merc SL - basically all are overpriced trash purchased primarily by posers.

As a serivce consultant, I've learned to avoid new SC owners unless they've been loyal (and nice!) Lexus owners from the past. I'd say 3 out of 4 SC430 owners are some the nastiest customers I deal with. They give me hell about all sorts of stupid junk when they arrive, never admit they use the navigation system wrong, and complain about the mirrors (duh!) and the lack of back seat room (double duh!).

It's a fun to drive car, but they have more problems than a drama queen, and they are not built to Toyota-quality standards, in my opinion.

Actually I do like the car, and from what I've heard the quality is wonderful as is the reliability. In fact, it's probably a standout within its class based on its cheaper price tag - but 'cheaper' in this case is still $62200, which I find maddeningly expensive, damn the price of competing products. I'm not hugely surprised to hear your analysis of SC430 owners - it takes a certain kind of person to spend that much on a convertible.

Are you just onw of those people that have random bursts?
