Salutations. Lately, I've noticed my slim PS2 skips a bit, even with games out of shrink wrap.

In fact I got GT4 again.. black label. It still skipped a bit in the intro

I read to get a q-tip/cotton swab/ear pick whatever it is, dip in rubbing alcohol, gently rub/dab the eye, then use the other end to dry out any excess liquid

Seems good but.. anyone here who can confirm this to be harmless ?

I've done it. Works fine. Just make sure you don't knock it out of alignment. Sometimes they wear out though.

I'd check the alignment though, because more often then not that's whats wrong, not because the lens is dirty.

Tis beyond me.. hopefully this pic can tell.. and if it is alignment I don't know how it's done

The black crap on the right is just the flashlight

Just dab it lightly. No need to dry it with the other end since rubbing alcohol dries so quickly, and that might just get loose strands on the lends after you clean it. The only way you'll knock it out of alignment is if you do something stupid and push on it.

Get 90% or higher Rubbing Alcohol and the stuff dries up on contact. Go to any supermarket like hannaford and it should sell for less than $2.

Awh man. Tender loving care, gently.. I already know.. every disc swap I do, I'm on my knees with both thumbs in the middle.. yet I've had to replace quite a few games.. the good ol' ones are very fragile

I picked up 91% isopropyl alcohol from Walgreens.. should be the same yeh ?

Yeah that method should work fine. I have done this countless times to my Playstation 2 and no problems so far.
