For those who are unaware, Samson Motors is a small, Oregon-based company. However, this small brand wants to be ambitious by releasing the Switchblade, a car that can fly, by 2018, in the US market. It only has three wheels, and will be powered by a 1.6L V4 producing 190 horsepower. Company claims it can break 200mph while in air, and fly up to 13,000 feet high. Weight is quite low, at just under 800kg. The Switchblade can be driven on road (the wings detract) as well, and it can reach about 100mph off the air. Price will start at around $120,000. It even comes with a parachute, if there is ever emergency while the Switchblade is in the air.

Does all of this sound too good to be true? Well here's the drawback. You can not buy this car completely ready, since over half of it has to be constructed by the owner. Samson has offered to build the Switchblade for those who do not want to put it together, but this costs an extra $20k.

Looks dangerous (the cockpit).

13,000 feet.
  • Do you need a PPL to fly this thing?
  • Do you need to file a flightplan?
  • Can you fly it wherever you want or do you have to avoid certain places, such as nuclear powerplants, military bases etc ... ?
  • Do you need an annual or a 5 year medical checkup?
  • Can you land this thing wherever you want?
Also Nope.

They are saying that this thing can fly in bad weather conditions when larger planes cannot fly.
