The Samsung i300x was announced yesterday.

It has Bluetooth, Infra-Red, 4GB Microdrive, 1.3MP camera, Intel X scale processor 416mhz, Microsoft Windows OS 5.0, MicroSD card Slot, MP3/WMA/AAC/MPEG 4 player and an extended 1700 mAh battery.

So is this Good or Bad and is Samsung improving :D

Hahaha, like the thread title .

The i300 certainly could look like a killer phone from the spec, it's supposed to be released later this month but to date I've not recieved a demo model, that said I don't always get demo models for every phone. I can tell you that the phone's microdrive card acts as a removable hard drive and is plug and play. Theres a few things that do concern me with the spec though the first is the camera, not the most important aspect of a phone I know, but a below standard camera shos that cost cutting has been streched. To be honest top spec phones should really be 2 at this stage. Other than the microdrive the phone really doesn't offer anything cutting edge, not for a supposedly high spec model anyway. Bear in mind my P990i has a 2 mp camera is capabl of storing as much and more depending on the size of the memory stick and it offers far more in the way of customisation, different connections such as Wi-Fi which through the course of 2006 will prove useful for more than just the technology whores out there and the ist goes on. I'm not saying it should be as good as or better than the P990 because at the end of the day it's not going to cost as much, but I don't see traces of cost cutting as prominent in the P990i, but in the i300 theres bit's all over the phones spec where I see it and think, that sounds great, but that bit there's a bit on naff side.

I'll give a better more accurate opinion of the phone when I get one in.

;)👍

There were a few qualms that i had with i300x specifications. 1.3MP is just not acceptable in this day and age and i agree with you entirely in that it should be at least 2.0MP, where the industry standard seems to be at the moment. Its connectivity is also lacking in my opinion for such a supposedly high end phone, it should at least have WLAN, Edge or HSCSD but it doesn't have any of that!! the best it could come up with are bluetooth and Infra-red which is acceptable but not enough for such a device. I'm also not so sure about the whole Windows OS thing, I much prefer Symbian in terms of ease of use and functionality :D.

Don't let the 4 gig memory snatch you, that and possibly a couple of other aspects of the phone are the only things that stand out as good, the rest all pints towards cost cutting, which points towards poor build quality and potentially bug ridden software.

Despite its lack of features and poor overall quality, how much do you reckon Samsung are asking for this phone in terms price - can't be more than the P990i or N91, that would be selfish of Samsung :sly:

It'll be maybe around £400 which already put's it higher than I personally think the phone is worth.

£400 - Thats ridiculous, thats way too much for such a phone

How much is the P990i by the way?

It's going to be a contract only phone, which means theres no handset only price unless you buy one second hand.

thought Id give you all an update, the rrp is £380 this is with a 3GB hard drive.

Also the P990i is having firmware issues and has been delayed until March.

A 3GB Hard drive. What happened to the original 4GB one?

No one is complaining about the 1.3MP Raghavan, just saying that it could be better given the model's specifications.

Why are you guys blitching about a 1.3mp camera? Some of us don't even have cameras in our phones.

A £380 phone with a second rate camera is something to ***** about. It's a corner that's been well and truely cut.

Samsung i300x….tried searching to get some reviews for it…and came across http://www.inods.com it’s giving some good info about it!!!See if it interest U!!…this model comes with bigger hard drive capacity and a newer OS version of Microsoft Windows Mobile…i.e it has Windows Mobile 5.0 OS….it also has great multimedia features with excellent music playback options….all together it’s a good mobile!!!...but what about the battery life???? And £400 needs a second thought!!!

💡

It's not a rubbish phone, it's just not worth the price. The memory drive is the only outstanding thing about it, nothing else matches or comes close to what other £400 phones offer.

And welcome to GTP.

but what about the battery life????

Welcome to GTP. :)

The I300X does come with an extended battery which lasts nearly up to twice as long as the standard one.
