San Andreas Wheel Setup

I'm having a lot of trouble setting up my wheel for San Andreas. I can't get the pedals to respond in the configuration setup. When playing the game, the wheel works fine (except there's an annoying deadzone that I'd like to be eliminated, how do I do that?), and the gas pedal works as the leaning on the motorcycle... I just can't configure that axis as anything else, and it's really annoying having to use the buttons for gas and brake. Also, while walking, the wheel seems to be turning the guy, and when I let go of everything, he just runs backwards towards the camera.

Is there any way around this? I'd really like to play this game with the wheel.

Why are you using a wheel in GTA anyway? You'd be much better off using a keyboard/mouse and then a PS2 style controller for driving.

driving with the wheel and walking with mouse/keyboard is perfect for such a game. i played mafia that way, hat had good wheel support.

I would love the wheel for this game if it worked properly. Also, the wheel I have (Driving Force Pro) is actually for PS2, so it has all the buttons for it. It should work but it just doesn't. I'm surprised at how hard this is to set up, this should have been easy. I'll try the combined axis thing later.

I know the DFP has all the buttons, but I'm saying it would just be much easier to have a controller for driving instead of having this big, bulky thing infront of the screen the whole time. Whatever floats your boat, though.

wheel in front, mouse on the right, keyboard on the left. works perfectly if you have ernough space on your desk. ;)

actually you could add a light gun aswell then you have the whole package!

how cool would it be to have point - shoot support! :)

Maybe thats why I prefer mouse and keyboard and controller.

i have a dfp too and i've been thinking about using it to control the car and maybe do some drifting :) drifting is very possible in that game with certian cars.

Its such a great game. My character is built like 50 cent with a beard and afro. :dopey:

I know.

I'd love to try drifting in a few cars with the DFP. :sly:

Wow. I don't even have the place to install my wheel etc. for this game. Last night I saw a review of the PC version. The AI was so stupid! The mod was driving around him and he didn't shoot!

Could you explain if you've the same problems?

i dunno... I thought the AI is much better. I actually got in a non scripted chase with a bike i was trying to steal and it lasted about 2 mintues through lots of traffic. He eventually crashed headon with a truck and i just followd him, and punched him off his bike. :)

The Enemies also recognize me when they should. Maybe the reviewer used a messed up computer.

"he did not shoot" isn't exaclty a very informative description of the problem. why should someone shoot at you just because you drive around him?

the only problem with the AI i have is their driving, on the highway they drive like maniacs.

they some.... most people drive like idiots on purpose. Just about all the crazy driving incidents in SA happen at least once in a while. SA just has them happen a lot more often to make fun of people's driving and the design of highways in California
