Today, as my friend was coming home from school, an Accord in front of him slowed to make a turn. He stops, and then behind him, a guy in a Dodge Durango drives across an entire intersection, drives about 50 feet down the steet my friend was stopped on, brakes about 5 feet before the car, and smashed into the rear of my friends Miata. This causes him to rear end the Accord in front. His car is totalled, the doors don't close, the trunk or hood doesn't open, the axle is bent, the center console has wrinkles in it, and the dashboard has moved an inch or so.
The driver of the durango either did it on purpose, since my friend isn't great friends with him, or he had his eyes off the road for a good 10 sec, while accelerating. I think it's the latter.
My friend wasn't hurt, but the guy he was with hit his knees on the dashboard, and his elbow on something, which was getting more and more painful, so he will go get it checked out.
Now for the pics. I have some pics, but they are pictures of my cell phone screen, since I didn't have a real camera on hand. I may get better pictures later.
You really can't see the amount of damage that was done to the rear in these pics, but just remember that a big suv hit it going around 35mph, so although it looks fairly flat, its been pushed in around 5 inches.
