Some friends of mine decided that, to cheer me up, they'd drag me out to the races (see what I did there?).

This is Tig's second run of the weekend - a 10.058 on a 10.04 dial-in to win his race:

Plus a quick demo from the world's fastest jet car, Fireforce 2. Turn your speakers riiiiiiiiiiiight up for this one:

(higher quality download available from my site - 22.5Mb, Quicktime .MOV file)

What's the Pod like? I've been meaning to go for yonks, but have never got round to it.

Nice pictures; love the Challenger.

🤬 loud. The jet car is absolutely the noisiest thing of ever - but I suppose a jet engine at 40 feet isn't going to be quiet...

Totally and utterly fapworthy. Plus I got to sit in it... :D

Did they manage to cheer you up?

And why did you need cheering up?

I've been signed off work for the week. But it was enjoyable, yes.

If you like your American cars, you'll like ProET racing. There was a '69 Camaro there - and I love my '69 Camaros.

Hey Famine, you love the '69 Camaro too. We better start a UK fan club.

I gave up trying to find a '69 Camaro for sensible money and bought a '62 Corvette instead! Of course, it was a project car. But soon to get it's semi-race Holley fuel injected 327 back though. Then the work can begin.

That Challenger is super-minty. My fave Mopar.

Wow, that jet car really took off.

Looks like you had a great time. 👍

I imagine...four of them at about 1,000 feet are enough to make you cover your ears.

((B1-B Bomber Demo At Oshkosh.))

It's great to see all that American muscle over on that side of the pond. As a child, my dad and I would hit the track every Sunday to race a 55 Chevy. It ran in the low 13’s so it was a burner but it was great fun.

I am really interested in things that we might not expect to see at a strip. Do you have any more odd photos like the ones below?

No, that's pretty much everything I took.

The yellow car is a Ford Capri. The terracotta-colour Mitsubishi Shogun does 9.6s (but he was further away from his dial-in than Tig's Challenger... :D - that's the race in the video I posted)

Edit: You're in luck... Our Challenger-owning friend sent me the following message:

Some links for the chap who wanted to see more quirky stuff. A huge selection of Yank and British tin on the track.

Thanks for the links. For the most part your drag racing isn't that much different then ours.

Yay, something to talk about at the Ocho as I'll be going to the European Finals in September.

I take it they didn't have any Top Fuellers at the Summer nationals, Andrew? They are louder than the Jet cars. I want to see a Rocket Car aswell, though they are quite rare, if ever, at The Pod.

I find the dopes that stand in the stand behind the start line funny when the Jet Car starts up :D

So, thumbs up then Andrew?
