It's a bit of a shame, but Takuma Sato has given up hope of raising the cash to drive for Jordan, and has instead signed a 3-year test-and-reserve deal with BAR. He also has a specific option that gives him first call on JV's seat should Villeneuve leave, as he has been threatenting to do recently.

Sato has tested for BAR before, and it's a logical step for the team, because he can speak more clearly to Honda's engineers, being from the same land.

Like I say, it's a shame, because I think he'd turned a corner, and was going to get better and better in his second year in F1.

With Wilson confirmed at Minardi, that leaves only two seats open for 2003.

its a shame. i really think jv should leave if he hates the team. hopefully sato will get a chance to drive sometime in 2003. maybe an injury, or poor performance by button or jv will let that happen.

I really think sato was quite quick and entertaining last year. Almost every weekend he had a failed car and lost a lot of practice time. there were only a few times when he destroyed cars, and i bstill believe he never made the same mistake twice. He never competed in f3000 so his knowledge of most tracks were limited. Yet he still stayed very close behind fisichella, touted as the second best driver in f1. f1 is missing what sato has, someone with guts. he takes very daring overtaking moves.
