Is it normal that I don't find any save function between championship races?
It's kind of annoying.
There is no qualifying neither?
Gran Turismo 4 had it, so I don't know why they changed it?

probably tomake it so people can't just goback to their save gameif they lose a race aka cheating

That's a feasible reason,
but I though don't like the fact that if I start a championship..
I have to finish it the same hour.

Doesnt look like its there. Would be helpful to not have to pause as suggested above and leave my PS3 on for 8 hours while I'm away...

how is that cheating?

If the game allow us to save after every race, as soon as you lose one you can switch off the game, start it again and have a perfect championship without doing it all over again.

I'm really upset about the no option to save mid championship. So what if you can cheat - you can also choose not to. It's supposed to be a game and therefore relaxing and fun. I might get interrupted by my kids or wife, I get limited time to play as it is and now I find I am forced to play through an entire championship. I find it very inconvenient to not have the save option. Sometimes, between family, social life and work I may get a few hours to play uninterrupted but often I wont.
It seems a lot of PS3 games have this idea that controlling the gamers choices like this is a good thing. It's not. A game should be fun, if I want serious I only have to look at real life. I buy games to help forget about that.
So everyone can have their own opinion about this but mine is a definite thumbs down! I am certain I will play this game less because of it and when GT6 arrives I will be waiting for reviews before I go out and buy it.
Sorry if i've missed something because I only got the game yesterday.

In which world do you live??? Maybe I started a championship late at night, and don't wand to spend hours to finish it, because, as mentioned before... some people have to work.

So, what if we get, like in GT4, if it is not cut like many other things, the F-1 championship with about 10 races a 2 hours driving... suuurre... drive non-stop for 10 hours. 👎

Or maybe you think, restart a race because you hit the wall in the first attempt is cheating too??

It is definitely NOT cheating to safe between a championship.

That's not how it worked in GT4, which is where saving between races in a Seris was introduced. You could save it but when you went into racing mode, you had to either go back to the next race or forfeit your Series. You couldn't change anything on your car -- I can't remember if you could even change oil and so avoid the inevitable power loss race to race from wear.

You couldn't race until you won and then move on, anymore than you can do that in GT5. But as mentioned, what it means now is that you have to leave your PS3 running -- even paused -- until you come back for the next race. That simply burned out a whole bunch of PS2s.

You can go back and do the individual races after anyway so it doesn't matter if you lose one. All you need to do to win the championship itself is win it points wise. There is no reason not to allow saving mid championship. I imagine some of them are going to get very long, like 10 laps each race and such. That needs a save function!

Man this stuff is getting ridiculous. Heaven forbid a game should require you to sit down for an hour to play it, that's like, as bad as burning Jesus or something.

No offense but I only sit down and play the game on the weekend or when I know I can play for a few hours. If I don't have the time, I won't do long races. Maybe you should do the same.

I missed that, too. So far, at least, the races themselves have been fairly short, so the pause worked. If they decided to do that with ten ten-plus lap races, then I'll be a bit miffed and wonder if they really do think players don't have jobs and lives and stuff.

you guys are sp worried about leaving your ps3's on, god forbid you have to do an endurance race
But in an Endurance race you can take a pit stop, can you not ?
I keep coming across things that make me think this game was rushed out of the door. Clearly Kaz was given too tight a timescale.

The best would be a save token. It exists in other games.
You are saved at your current position at the championship and as soon as you start a race the token is removed (so if you exit the game to try to restart you are screwed).

It wouldn't be cheating and it would save unnecessary console idling time (to go shopping, have lunch etc).

Cheating?

This is a game...

You save at a checkpoint in Call of Duty in the middle of a war, so I think it's totally reasonable to save in the middle of a championship race

Exactly, it's Call of Duty... Not a real war. I've never seen a soldier spawn behind a wall in my time...

Hm yes six years is asking a bit much really I mean he's not superman.

As a programmer I'm very disappointed with the level of polish in this game. I can think of half a dozen things that would make this game a great deal nicer to play that would have taken a day each for 1 guy to implement. This whole thing smacks of very limited playtesting - they obviously tried to make sure the racing works and then pushed it through the door without any time spent on streamlining and taking suggestions for improvement.

Thankfully though I'm pretty sure that GT6 will not be too far away (now the engine and models are done) and should be much much more refined.

You would think PD never made a racing game before.

There is no qualifying and you have to back out and restart every race, just to make an adjustment on your car.

BTW you won't be able to save that setup once you finally get it like you want it.

I dont understand where all this is coming from as every gran turismo game has been the same.

Its not ment to be convenient (however i can 100% see you guys frustrations and relate to your arguments).

Fact is GT games have always been about hard grafting and long races/championships.

Heh, I just don't understand what is happening with PD, they had it right in the older GTs so what happened? Some the fundamentals that made the other games legendary are completely gone. As for not being able to save just wait until the formula GT in the expert series 5 races 20 laps each and all pretty darn hard races. Boy we all really want to do 100 laps in one sitting.....

No they haven't .... many features have been axed in GT5...

Saved Setups are the key one .. if you're doing a 5 or 6 race championship chances are you'll need to tweak the settings on the car maybe for each race but at lest for 1/2 of them .... why did we lose the ability to have saved setups

Having to remember the setup and then not having a practice/qually mode pre-race to ensure you got it right is idiotic... GT5 is laughable sometimes in its omissions
