I was finishing up the last hour of the 4-hour Tsukuba - had 30 minutes left when I pitted in - and the PS3 YLOD'ed on me. Now, since I had resumed a "suspended" race, does that mean that all 3 1/2 hours that I had done is all for naught? Or will I be able to re-resume from the last save point I had after I get the PS3 fixed and turned back on?

I doubt your suspension will still be saved when your PS3 is repaired. Perhaps if you remove the HDD, it will, but I'm not too sure about that. To be honest I would be more worried about the PS3 than the Enduro being able to resume.

I got the PS3 out of the trash - thrown away for YLOD originally - so if it is finally totally dead, I'm not really out any money - just some old AS5 that I had laying around.

I'm actually more upset about the loss of the race progress because of how annoying the race has been - I was looking forward to getting it over and done with when it died.

Be sure to backup your HDD once you get it back up if you haven't already. The YLOD will eventually(or quickly depending on how well you fix it) return.

Not sure whether it kills your suspend the instant you resume it or not until after the race. People have talked about resuming from the same point multiple times, but I don't know if they are restoring a backup of the gamesave or not.

Removing the HDD is required to get to the board. The YLOD fix itself will not affect anything on your hard disk. Well, assuming you don't accidentally drop your disk into a fire during the process or something like that.

Sadly, I don't actually have any drive large enough to back up the PS3 with via USB. I've had to fix YLOD on this system a few times - never fun, but a burden of love, I guess you could say.

I'm glad to hear that people have been talking about resuming from the same place repeatedly, but I would like to know more about how they do it. If it's with backups, then I guess I'm SOL

If you're lucky, you may be able to get your YLOD PS3 system reballed by professionals, yet that comes at a cost of $100...

Your best bet is to get a PS3 Slim when you do get the time and money (I had to work and work to get mine). Not only are they power-efficient, but they are built tough and are virtually YLOD-resistant, that is unless you stress the system in such extreme conditions that defy system operation... :p

I've had 2 YLOD repairs and my saves were fine both times, the only things I lost were a few themes.

I don't plan on exposing my PS3 to either the surface of the sun or deep space, so I think I'm pretty good in that regard. The inside of a volcano though... :sly: lol.

Seriously, though, I'd like to get this one reballed (mainly because it's a 60GB with all the bells and whistles), but I don't know who's reputable in the field and who isn't.
