As I may need to send in my PS3 for repairs to the laser reader, I need to back-up my game saves. Is it sufficient to just copy the Saved Data utilities file, or do I also need to copy the Game Data utilities file?

Thank you!

Hey Biggles .... I just went through that very process and received my "refurbished" unit back last week. To answer your question .... you need only to copy the "Game Save" files. In fact, there is no option to copy or save any of the files in the "Game Data Utility" folder.

Also, in case you don't already know, do not bother packing up the unit in it's original packaging as I did. Sony will send you a special box for the return of the unit along with a pre-paid shipping label. I shipped mine back on a Monday and received the replacement unit on Tuesday, 8 days later (the day prior was the Memorial Day holiday). Pretty good service if you ask me :)

For what it's worth, not all games have a "copy" option. I was unable to save my MotoGP08 and NFS Undercover games. I was able to copy GRID, DIRT, GT5P, F1CE, Nascar09 and Ferrari Challenge.

Isn't there a "backup" option which copies all the data (including copy-protected stuff like DLC) on the harddrive to a usb harddrive? I could have sworn there was.

Yes, I believe that you can back-up the whole shebang using Backup Utility.

Thanks for those reassuring words ANFD. In other words, everything worked out OK for you re-loading your saved data?

It's been very annoying for me, because after waiting for months, I finally received my new Fanatec GT3 RS wheel, but have nothing to play it with! Well, at least I've rediscovered the joys of Enthusia, which (without wanting to start another epic discussion ;) really does have better physics, in some ways, than not only GT4, but even GT5P!
