Saving game updates to a USB drive

Did a search and could not find anything.

Is there a way to save the game updates files on a USB drive? The "Game Data Utility" lets me view and delete the update but not save it. I can save game saves, and everything else but not the game updates. Any way around this?

I have GT5P Jpn version which had an update and am taking it over a friends house. I wanted to have the updates on USB so we don't have to do the download again on his PS3.

Ignore me.

I really need to start reading better. :indiff:

I believe you would have to download the update via the PSN website on your PC/Mac, then put it on your USB flash drive. This is so people without internet access to their PS3 can get updates and install them.

;)

I read somewhere that you can't do that. Not with game updates, anyways.. You can update your XMB Firmware and stuff, but not game updates.. Although I am not totally sure as I have never tried it myself..

All I can suggest is, take your PS3, with you! :)

You can get firmware updates off the net from a PC/Mac but not game updates as far as I know..

I also wonder this for add-on content you buy on the PSN...are you just expected to pay for them again if you buy a new HDD or need to get a new PS3?

You shouldn't, if you Change HDD/Get a new PS3, your PSN account doesn't change, therefore you can go to the "Download List" area in the PS store, and redownload it up to 5 times.

Thanks for the replies. I'm surprised they don't allow you to download the game updates from their site (or saved them from the PS3), specially since they are free. What if you do change HHD or just want to backup the data or to play the game on another PS3?Maybe this depends on the game? Oh well.

I have found it annoying that I can't use my flash drive for any thing at all in the game set up. Its recognized in photo/video/music but not game mode

Well, that is because they don't want homebrew on the PS3, they learned with the PSP that using the memory stick for everything let in hackers

Hopefully its one of those things that will be chenged in the future. Its aggravating as all get out that one of the easiest ways to move game saves is now beyond us. I'm lucky in that I have 2GB CF cards from my digital camera. But what sucks is that I have to use the camera itself as the drive at the PC.
