SCCA Style Touring Championship

I'd like to take a moment to clarify what I mean by Touring Car. This is not the Speed GT championships. This championship is going to be based off of the SCCA Touring classes, T1 and T2.
With the LMS series winding down, I've decided to throw a couple short series out and see what bites, this is one of them. So without further adieu...

Testing has started, and consider this a signup thread / informational package for T1 and T2 competition. The series will be 5-6 races, between 15-20 minute races each. This will be a GT mode competition as well. Schedule is TENTATIVE right now, but looks like this

Tsukuba - 15 Laps
Circuit de la Sarthe I - 4 laps
Laguna Seca - 12 laps
Midfield - 13 laps
Nurburgring Nordschleife - 3 laps
Infineon Sports Car Course - 10 laps

Like I said, the schedule is tentative. The series will be a short one, as I don't think I can wait long before season2 of LMS. But in the meantime, I'm trying out some other series ideas.

Points system will be based on the number of entries per class, but it will be something like
1st - 20pts
2nd - 15pts
3rd - 10pts
4th - 8pts
5th - 6pts
6th - 5pts
7th - 4pts
8th - 3pts
9th - 2pts
10th - 1pt

1pt for best lap and 1pt for submitting a time. If you race, even if you don't get a top-10, you'll receive a point. I think it's fair that if you put forth the effort, you get even a small reward for it, and those 1pts might mean the difference.

The car list involved is pretty big, and I'm not going to list them all here and now, but some of the offerings for each class include:
Touring 1
Chevy Corvette Z06
Dodge Viper GTS
RUF RGT
BMW M3 CSL and GTR
12+ cars being tested
Touring 2
Chevy Camaro SS
Acura NSX
Pontiac GTO
Mazda RX7 & RX8
Toyota Supra
19+ cars being tested

All cars will receive the following mods
Sports Exhaust -- Engine Balancing -- ECU Upgrade -- 1.5way LSD -- Sports Suspension -- R2 tires -- Roll Cage -- Chassis Refresher (if applicable) -- Oil Change.

Added to the standard mods, some cars will receive performance upgrades to remain competitive in their respective classes.

Right now I'm just looking for an interest in this series. The series will start after the end of the GTPLMS Series, which is 4-5 weeks away as of today. Consider this an interest check. If you're interested, please reply below.

PS, I'm also considering running Spec Miata as a support for the Touring Classes. Specs still being worked out on those bad-boys too.

Didn't your Mommy ever say "If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all"? Why don't you take it up with the SCCA? lol. :sly:

Hey 'Gun, correct me if I'm wrong but don't they (like in World Challenge) use DOT spec radials (i.e. with grooves)? So, I would recommend using the sports tire (plus that would make these cars infinitely more fun to drive :wink: ). As you well know, I can't guarantee I'll make even one event (what with real life taking presidence over GT4 and all) but if I can I'll submit something. Also, what do you think about including the Spirra? It would be a good replacement for the 360 Modena... anyways, it is your series do as you wish...

I have been looking for a GT mode series to race in, and this looks like on that fits the bill!

Like the cars/tracks/mods/tyres so don't change em bud!

Hey 'Gun, correct me if I'm wrong but don't they (like in World Challenge) use DOT spec radials (i.e. with grooves)? So, I would recommend using the sports tire (plus that would make these cars infinitely more fun to drive :wink: ).

See, now this is what I was talking about in the LMS R7 thread.
The RL driver's in those series get paid lots of cash to drive on those tyres. The cars react slower in RL to oversteer than they do in the game, and it's easier to correct for in RL.
In the game the cars become SO twitchy on sports tyres that it becomes a struggle to the death instead of an enjoyable race/passtime/hobby.

Yes I know it's more realistic to use sports tyres, but, probably ends up a less enjoyable race.

Plus, i don't like sports tires. hate them actually, and w/ roughly 350-550hp (depending on class), sports tires just break away and make the cars tough to drive. believe me, hard tires will be plenty tough in these cars. :)
 
I suppose I just have more experience than you guys. I don't have too many problems with them, except trying to outbrake AI on the uphill from turn 1 to 2 at Infineon-unless the cars are overpowered, and I'm talking like 900bhp. Anyways, are you not going to give me word on the Spirra? I can give you my testing results today to prove it is a fit if you'd like. Either way with my schedule I doubt I can make more than one event. If you need help I'm your man.

I have no problems with tire's breaking away, and I have up to 500HP.
You should drive one of the cars in my series once.
 
Ill join but i dont know if i can do all of the races because of school but ill do as many as i can. Ill watch this forum to see whats going on
 
I like the Spec Miata idea for sure. So count this as my interest check ;)
 
I'm closing this thread. There is not - for me - enough interest generated in T1 / T2 competition. Sorry to all that were interested. A big opportunity would be to join AngelCreator's Sedan series (As I probably will). Keep an eye out, however, for a Spec Miata series as interest there is pretty big.
