Your thoughts on his big decision this Sunday...

I think he should go this year because he's accompished so much and there's hardly anything left to apart from win the world championship which he has already done 7 times.

I think Shumacher will decide to go this year regardless of how the race goes.

Despite Alonso's relegation to 10th place and Micheals increased chance of massively decreasing this points gap...I still think Micheal will go...personally I feel he's already made his mind up.

Indeed he has....

I used to love watching Schumacher, and his classic, titanic battles with Mika Hakkinen were the stuff of legend - how ironic that Schumacher was the the embattled underdog back then. But I'm glad he's decided to go... half of me wants to say thanks for all the great performances, the other half says it's about time...

Ditto TM, I feel he has been around long enough - time to let the up-and-comers have a go.

Just a theory of mine but maybe he will be takeing Ross Brawns place seeing as how Brawn is takeing a sabatical next year and there was some talking of Schumi still having a place in Ferrari next year.

Anyway I will be sad to see him finish his racing career, hopefully he goes out on top.

he is going
Wonderful insight.

Hmmmm, I don't know about that. We're not sure about how good his relationship with Ferrari still is. I think at the very least, he'll take some time off, and see if he really wants to be further involved with the sport.

I hadn't heard anything about it until a few minutes ago . Maybe they'll let him drive the trucks, even though he wrote off a company car earlier this year ;).

It’s pretty sad. We’ve seen something that we’ll probably never seen again – I feel quite privileged to have seen a legend in action. :)

Well since I watch F1, I saw Schumacher racing.... so while I'm not his giggest fan whatsoever, I will miss him nevertheless... a reason more not to watch F1... and there are so many others ( boring races for example ), that I don't know if I
will continue to watch F1 at all... for me personally, it really depends how Honda and Toyota will perform...

He's still going to be doing something with Ferrari. I can see him driving an F1 car again at a test or at Fiorano.

“Words are not enough and whatever I could say now will never fully express how much I love this fascinating world of motor sport and all it has given me,” said Michael Schumacher. “From go-karting to Formula 1, I have lived through moments that I will never forget. I am profoundly grateful for everything I have had. I want to thank everyone who has accompanied me, supported and inspired me, right back to the days of my childhood. Above all, a special thanks goes to Corinna and our two children, who have given me the strength to do what I have done. All these years in Formula 1 have been amazing, especially those spent alongside my friends in the Scuderia. Soon my future will belong to my family, while I am happy to be still part of Ferrari. But for now, what matters is this world championship.”

At the end of the year, as is traditional, we will announce the new team organisation, which will also include a definition of Michael’s new role.

I think is Schumacher stays on with Ferrari it will be a role with the road car side of the business. He's not going to want to be going to every F1 race like he does now - that's why he wants to retire, why anyone wants to retire from anything, he wants some more free time and less stress in his life. I can't see him wanting to turn up at every race and not be racing when he's obviously still got what it takes to be competing at the top level.

Agreed - Though I'm not sure he'll be part of the road car team - More like helping develop future F1 (and other race) cars.

But him leaving Ferrari - That would be quite a shock...

The press release makes it clear that he'll, "retire from race driving" at the end of the 2006 season. It doesn't mention testing. I think he'll want to see how he compares to Kimi. He'll not be able to resist going head to head with him at Fiorano, but whether we find out the results of that are a different matter.
