I just unlocked the Endurance Series and was looking at it briefly in shock and alarm.

Am I right in thinking these are actual length races and you can't save during them? I might see myself running 60 laps at a track some long afternoon but a 4 hour, 1000 km and 24 hour race are just insane. With work and family It would take me 12 days at 2 hours a day just to finish a 24 hour race. As far as I'm concerned those might as well not be in the game because I'm never going to run one.

If there is a way scale the length down and compress the event I would consider trying it. Or even the abilty to save and continue another day. Does GT5 give you those options or is this as absurd as it looks?

Join the club! There's no mid race save feature I'm afraid.

There were three in GT4! and I did all of them Aspec. I just paused the race when I needed to and continued when I was able. Some took me 2 weeks to finish. I have never had a problem with the console being on that long, in fact my new ps3 has been on for about a month now grinding Bspec enduros.

No mid-game-save...you just have to pause and go to pee (make sure you don't accidentely hit restart race when you return) or build enough gap (20 laps or more) with a fast car and park a side and rest a bit...

How i envy the person that can pause the game and not have to worry about brownouts. I live in china, and have for the past 7 years ran my computer 24/7 no problem. I recently bought a PS3 and i have had power cuts every week since september 2010. Its frustrating as hell. Ive now remembred that i love litstening to audio books while working a computer 50hours week in my old job, and thats what i plan on listenieng to while i do the endruance events.,

I think 3 ways they could greatly improve the longer races (esp the 24hr ones).

1 - Save games

2 - If they wanted to make it more realistic, they should allow two of your B-Spec drivers to help you.

Per the current rules for the 24hrs of Le Mans:
Drivers can not drive more than four hours consecutively, and no one driver can run for more than fourteen hours total.

3 - Another more far fetched idea would be to allow an online "team" to do the event, by exchanging/sending same game progress, much like how you "gift" items (with the same basic rules, 3 drivers, max 4hr stints, 14hrs max per person).

Yeah I think they really need to let B-spec drivers help you. Just have it require you to drive at least 8 total hours of the 24 hours yourself or something.

I have did them all up to the 9hr. I will do the 24hr but I will call my brother and a friend up to come drive a few hours during the day lol

I think this is a great idea. Something really needs to be done to make these races approachable. Let's hope that Kaz can do this in a future update. The more noise we make the greater chance he will hear us.

Excellent Ideas! Especially the B-spec co-drivers! That would be great. Even a simple way to condense the time like so many other sims would be great. I like experiencing the 24 hour time changes in a 2 hour event with 6x tire and fuel wear. That would make sense but having 9 different full length events without some of these features we've discussed is just a wasted effort on PD's part IMO.

They need to restore the swap-with-B-Spec feature from GT4!!!

This is super-plus-plus-bonus-awesome idea!

I did the 24hr race format in GT4...but that was when you could swap with B-Spec drivers, which actually made it slightly possible imo!

I was absolutely shocked and gutted when I got GT5 to discover they'd got rid of this feature. I respect and admire people who can do the 24hr races on A Spec but for most people I think its completely unrealistic! And it stops the game way too early as a result...:(

Change this back please for GT6

I have my console hooked up to a UPS just in case. If the power goes out for hours I'm toast, but little surges are no problem.

:idea:Maybe they are trying to 'encourage' us to get a 2nd ps3 for the non - GT5 gamers in the household; as if you pause your race no one else can use the ps3 until you finish your race.

I'll do the 90 laps at Laguna Seca and maybe the 200 laps of Indy, but no way I am going to spend 6-9-24 straight hours :tdown:virtual racing

I can't pay my rent/mortgage (nevermind internet connection!) with a virtual cheque

I won't be touching the 9 hour or either of the 24 hour races.

I will do the first one tommorow with Minolta!

I completed the A-Spec Le Mans 24 hours today. Got a crazy amount of experience but boy did it get old after a while.

Here are some tips for making the experience bearable:

You must use an X1 so you can build moderate leads and then leave the car sitting there while you get food or want to take breaks. I found it was harder to get big leads at Le Mans though, as I was only lapping over a minute faster than 2nd place most of the time (provided I wasn't spinning or pitting).

Obviously it gets very boring after a while so I found myself playing games ramming other cars at times, but mostly it was trying to beat my fastest lap that kept me going. I did about 16 hours with my wheel and then remaining 8 with the DS3, just so I could sit back and be comfortable. I was only about 15 seconds slower with the pad but I crashed a lot.

I found that the changes from evening to night and night to morning to be pleasant to drive in as you could see slight differences in the environment every lap, however during the night and the day it was very monotones.

Finally, BIG TIP. Turn off music in the game and find yourself a load of podcasts online that interest you. I found myself listening to Comedy, BBC documentaries and design podcasts as I lapped over and over and it really helped pass the time as I was learning a lot and enjoying what I was hearing - you go into autopilot in game after a while so it doesn't really matter how you are driving.

I completed this by starting at 7pm on Friday night. I did 7 hours straight (with breaks but did not pause). I stopped started the next day at about 2pm and did 13 hours. Crazy stuff. Yet again though it was never paused and I found myself in 3rd place and a few laps down at some stages after leaving it for so long. I eventually switched to the DS3 in this period which was my best move. I paused at exactly 20 hours and finished it today. Ideally it would be better to do it over more days but I wasn't doing anything so I said I'd go for it. Hope this will help some of you when you go to take it on :)

I love endurance racing, and think PD made the right choice by not letting the bobs do it for you easy style.

The point of A-spec is to drive.

However, like most computer sims that allow full length races, I'd like to be able to invite a friend, either online or in the same room, to sign into their psn (at their house, or have the game recognize them as a 'guest' racer) and trade between us every four hours.

I plan to do the Suzuka race in four hour bursts. I did the Grand Valley, Laguna, Roadster,Indy 500 in one sitting each. And even Grand Valley and Laguna a couple times each. Thinking about doing grand valley right now actually.

they are supposed to be very long races.......what exactly did you think "endurance" meant?

I found the 60 lap race tedious in an X1, but I didn't want to risk losing after running 2+ hours in a reasonably matched car.

I love hearing about people who value the extra 30 minutes more then their own driving ability.

Slamming an X1 into everything, trying to drive the car is enough. An hour long chore. The ironicity of this game sometimes.

I can do the race in two hours flat, comfortably running 1'55ish laps in a 400-500hp car on one pitstop. Heck I can do the race in just over two hours, by at least a lap, without pitting, in the fireblade.

Why is that people TORTURE themselves to play a racing game?

That is what I was thinking. For any races 9 hours or longer, you can switch between yourself and your employed B-spec drivers.

In fact I was thinking it would have been better with a longer A-spec mode, shorter B-spec mode and instead of endurances for each, a combined endurance mode where you can race yourself, with you B-spec driver(s) or just in B-spec. It would give us a choice for the endurances where some cannot spend so much time on one race for whatever reasons.
