Scottish Motorsport Show 2007

This was held today in Lanark. I stay within 10 miles of it, and decided to pop along. Colin McRae, his brother Alistair, and their dad Jimmy, Scottish Motorsport Royalty, were all billed as making an appearance. It was mentioned that Allan McNish may make it too, along with his Audi R8. The R8 was there, but there was no sign of Allan.

Russ Swift Mini Display Team

Russ was there with 2 Minis and an Evo. I missed the start of his display, and I didn't have a good view. What I did see was a great display of car control.

It was a good day out, although the weather could have been better. Even allowing for the weather, they got an excellent turnout, and I hope it'll be on again, bigger and better next year.

The videos aren't great quality, but they were taken on what is essentially a stills camera, so I think it did a good job.

Like most racecars, it's smaller than it looks on TV. It's also quite short--the rear spoiler is about belt-high.

I took the inside photos just after I got there. It was a lot busier later, and I wouldn't have been able to get clean shots then.

The other side of the rally arena was the pits area, and the public wasn't allowed in there.

The arena was very slick and slidey. Russ attempted to drive the mini on 2 wheels, but said beforehand that he didn't think he could it due to the lack of grip. He drove it up the ramp, but basically just came back down onto all 4 wheels immediately.

He asked the crowd, "You wouldn't want me to damage the car, would you?"

The crowd responded with a resounding, "Yeah!"
