Anyone bothered to pick it up yet?

My brother and I have been playing for the last four or so hours and Rock Band simply is the most amazing music game to date. Whether you're on guitar, drums or even vocals, there's something for you. Its amazingly balanced, well-tuned, and certainly has much more music cred than some other titles out there...

One of my favorite parts?

Making yourself in the game (me a bit rock/roll, emo/goth), and then kicking ass on your favorite instrument. Thus far I like the guitar the best (far superior to the "new" guitar in Guitar Hero), although the drums aren't too bad. My brother loves doing the drums, so I let him have that.

We're maybe 20% through the game, if even that. We've come across Radiohead, Garbage, the Foo Fighters, Bon Jovi, and the Ramones. The hits keep comin', and I'm so happy that we got around to getting it.

Its just AWESOME!

I'll probably be getting it eventually but definetly I have my cons about that guitar. It's a whole different feel from the guitars that I got and I hate it.

I think the guitar from Guitar Hero will work on the game, but I may be mistaken...

What's the point of buying the game then? I'd probably get used to it anyways.

Played it at my buddies last night. It's really the ultimate party game.

I also feel like your fun will be increased exponentially by how good your soundsystem is.

I picked it up yesterday for me and my local friends. We played for at least 8 hours yesterday. It's an awesome game, no doubt about it. I've never played guitar before, and my left hand is just dying right now. :P I was playing on Medium, though, which was a fun challenge. :)

I've seen the stats on the GH3 guitar versus the RB guitar, and the only noticeable difference (besides overall shape), is in the inclusion of a second set of fret keys on the RB guitar. You can use the GH3 guitar on RB, but it just won't have the second fret keys for the "solo" guitar playing.

Drums. Vocals. Better track list. Better visuals. Customizations.

Exactly my point, if I were to use my old guitar I would just buy the game itself. But the whole point is for me to buy the package with everything. ;) Better track list is a matter of opinion. As far as I can tell what i've heard/seen on the list of Rock Band and playing Guitar Hero 3 they're both good.

Want a better track list? Get Frets on Fire! Custom songs.

I've always wanted to try that but my computer is so pathetic it freezes trying to run just THAT! :dunce: To think this thing used to run BF2... on all low graphics of course and still lagged. God I want to build a computer.

WARNING!

Be prepared to either repair the drum set's bass pedal, or make sure your warranty is intact. I can guarantee that most everyone's will break. After only about 6 hours of on/off use, mine did, and if you read teamxbox.com's review.... theirs broke DURING THE REVIEW!

You can use a bass pedal from an Electric Drum Set, if it uses the same style port as the Rock Band item. Or, you can do like I did, and rivet a 10ga. piece of steel to the face of the foot pedal. ;)

They did give a big warranty sheet in the box, saying you've got to talk to EA to get it sorted out. I think my brother (for some reason) got a warranty at Best Buy on it, so apparently we can replace it right away. I think...

Good to know that you can use "real" parts though. Quality should be much better...

I bought the Best Buy warranty as well....
I was told 2 to 6 weeks is what I'd have to wait. Yeah, I'm not quite that patient. :)

My 360-owning friend got Guitar Hero 2 and 3 not too long ago, and we'd been having a blast with those, but after we picked up Rock Band last night, there's simply no comparison. I agree with YSSMAN, it's just a better game.

Being the best guitar player (in both Harmonix games and real life) of my group of friends and the only one who can kinda sing, I attempted to play guitar and sing at the same time -- the game accepts an Xbox Live headset attached to a controller. It actually worked with songs I knew well and the guitar on medium, but after a few songs I decided that ditching the mic and playing guitar on hard was a better idea. Still, if you haven't tried it yet (and can't find someone who will sing for you), singing and playing is a neat experience.

Anyway, I like RB's track selection the best so far, and although the create-a-rocker function is a bit lacking in customizability (face and body options are extremely limited; clothing, hairstyle, and accessory choices have a lot of over-the-top attention-grabbers but make it difficult to recreate your real-world self), it's still much, much better than using a slew of outlandish, hideous fictional characters that you can hardly relate to, as in Guitar Hero.

If you only own one Guitar Hero guitar, buying the Rock Band set would net you everything you need for a 4-player experience, seeing as how the Rock Band set only comes with one guitar (no bass). The GH3 guitar would work better as a bass anyway, considering it doesn't have the extra frets or SFX switch that the Rock Band guitar has.

Agreed, but you can come pretty close to making things look right compared to one's self. I wish you could take photos in the game, mine's pretty similar to real-me. But, alas, you can only do so much.

I do wish, however, that you could set how your band-mates look all the time (that is, if you're playing solo). When I'm clearly in an "emo/indie" band with the other kiddies there and then some goth/metal guy is the frontman, it just looks stupid. But, thus far, the bad that my brother and I (plus our fictional character Xavier) looks to be about right.

I posted in the official RB forum but I will also post here.

We rented it and instantly fell in love. 4 players online. Drummer, 2 guitars, and a singer make for some incredible moments. We played for 10 hours straight on saturday!! This game basically consumed most of our holiday weekend.

There are over 60 songs including a Metallica pack that has And Justice For All, Blackened, Ride the Lightning, and Enter Sandman.

We just bought the game for $59.99 since we already had the guitars from Guitar Hero 2. Excellent game and the co-op campaign is extremely long.

One of the default singers in the game actually looks a LOT like you Brad. (YSSMAN). He even had the big sun glasses that you usually wear.

This is definetly the best music game that we have ever played.

I got a solid 5 hours in with 2 other friends...

I could go into huge detail on a personal review, but to sum it up...I don't think it's worth buying.

Well, this isn't going well. My guitar doesn't recognize downwards strumming. :(
Just bring it back and get a new one for free.
To bad we missed you last night it was a great time. Heather was able to sing every single song that we tried including every single Metallica song. The only ones she had a hard time on were the songs where her voice had to go deep or at the lower part of the graph. I was actually singing along with her on some of the metallica songs so I definetly want to give the singing part a try.

The part that made me laugh is where she had to activate the power or overdrive by "yelling" at certain parts. She actually made me jump a few times causing me to start laughing and miss notes. lol

Heather just informed me that she can use the 360 headset to sing and it works just as good as the microphone for the most part. So shes just going to take back the mic and use the headset.

I like the concept of the Rock Band guitar more than the Guitar Hero guitar (the fact that it's a Strat, the solo keys, and the SFX switch), but the Rock Band guitar is a shoddy, wobbly piece of crap. After three nights of normal usage our strummer barely works either.

Yup, that's about the amount of time mine took to break down. :( What a piece of rubbish. :indiff:

Yeah, I'll be taking it back, I assure you. I'd rather get the strumming pickup out of a GH1/2 guitar, because it was ACTUALLY field tested, but I'll settle for a working RB model. And, I'm sorry for missing the jam session. If I wouldn't have had to go help my bud with his party, he would have been in some serious trouble. We'll have to jam out soon, though. I've been practicing as much as I can stand. :) I actually got 94% completion on Brainpower on Expert. :D I was stoked for that.

You'da thought they would've thought about this problem but they obviously were thinking more about the $$. xD

Your a lot better than me. I can only do a few songs on hard but I have fun no matter what difficulty I am playing on. The cool part about Rock band is if you do start falling behind on notes, your team mates can go into "overdrive" to help bail you out. I love everything about this game and by the sounds of it I guess I am glad we are using the GH2 guitars. 👍

I think RB is only better as a multi player game. Single player with just a guitar not so hot and not nearly as challenging as GH3. That is my opinion though. And as solo player like myself I would be wasting my money for the single player experience. And the setlists fit each game.
