And they look better

Cheaper too

Seat is planning to launch its next-generation Ibiza compact in the next twelve months but before the redesigned hatch arrives officials will be displaying a new concept that’s said to preview the upcoming production model. The new concept is called the Bocanegra at will be appearing at this week’s Geneva Motor Show.

The new Ibiza will be offered in both three and five-door variants and will feature a toned-down version of the chiselled styling of the Bocanegra concept. Underneath the new sheetmetal is Skoda Fabia running gear, which means a range of petrol and diesel engines starting with a 1.2L turbocharged unit as well as a 1.4L normally aspirated engine. Expect to see performance variants including a new ‘FR’ with a 150hp 1.4L turbo engine and a ‘Cupra’ edition packing a turbocharged 1.8L mill.
The all-new Ibiza is set to be unveiled in full production trim at the Madrid International Motor Show in May of this year.

Hmm.. SEAT's designers seem to have taken lessons from Chris Bangle, which necessarily ISN'T a good thing..

Aside from the front, I like the shape. Hopefully they will tone it down quite a bit before production. I think I see some real potential for this car.

It's...angular....

I'm trying to think objectively here, and it's really not that bad, but it's kind of "Angles for the sake of angles," and the downward sweeping line through the door is something I'm not huge on.

and it's something that will NEVER appear on the States. Split on the headlights, on one hand, they're busy, but on the other...they're just so cool...

Concept car will be 1.4 twin turbo engined with 7 speed auto.

The name sounds like a disease :yuck:

The rear reminds me so much of the new Fiat Bravo.. and thats not a bad thing, I can certainly see the Ibiza'ness in it but it will have to look a lot bolder to compete with the new Fiesta which is just amazing as it looks idential to the verve concept on which it was based..

Can't tell whether I should call it ugly or striking... It looks like the Toyota WiLL from the front end. And those headlamps look straight out of an Acura product.

As per usual, if the black beak was body-coloured, it'd look a lot better.

The lights are just the Eos' shape, all future-like. Overall, I like it, but Seat's concepts usually translate very little to the road.

We'll get it as the Polo, friend. That is, assuming we get the Polo. Which will probably happen...

===

Per the concept, it looks like a melted Audi. And I mean that in a good way...

Thing is, I still prefer the Volkswagen siblings. They just look more "clean."

Well, I'd rather it as the Polo than a SEAT, for some reason.

I'd rather not say why.

I very much doubt the production model will look that aggressive

Man, you can tell Walter's rubbed off. I'm not digging the front too much, but the back of that car is phenomenal. It's awesome.

Well teh front bumper and headlights/tailights will be toned down but you are pretty much looking at the next ibiza cupra there.

Here is the concept version of the MK2 leon:

And this is the production Leon Cupra:

Well actually its the guy who designed the lambos that oversaw this car.

Eh, even in production guise, still not too thrilled about that line 'cross the door, but I guess it's not bad on the Leon.

It's a bit worse on the Bocangera, because of that line that comes off the rear fender, and causes them to clash right in the middle of the door, and it makes an awkward intersection visually, for me, anyway.

They probably would have been much better off integrating the line coming off the headlights into the hood/window line or the fender. No need for a random streak down the side of the car.

It is a random streak but I do like it. This car makes my current ibiza look really dated now lol. Apparently this car sets the precedent for all the new SEAT. The ex audi head honchos really seem to be steering SEAT in the right direction, and with it is coming audi technology :D

Isn't that more or less the point of model replacements?

Hopefully they won't put it too upmarket. It should be a good car, but VAG already has the A3 and Golf and I would imagine they would try and not pull a GM and not market two cars to the same person.

Are we talking Leon or Ibiza here, cause the ibiza/bocanegra is polo sized. I presume you mean the ibiza.

Its really odd where VAG will be going with SEAT. With their designs they are upstaging VW and comments as such are already popping up on other car forums. Apparently they also want audi like quality interiors, so im really confused as to where SEAT is positioned in regards to vw.

I probably should have thought about that more.

It seems as though they are following kind of a Pontiac model, offering cars that have that sporty flair yet are still inexpensive.

Everyone benchmarks Audi for interiors though, heh. I know this is a VW company, but certainly they realize offering their best interiors in cars cheaper than the People's brand can't be good financially for them. Well, okay... VW has shown us plenty of signs they don't know better, but Porsche does.

Now that I've seen the in-life pictures, didn't see those stupid gaps around the grille. They need to get rid of them too. And to be fair, showing the Leon concept compared to the production car doesn't mean this won't be toned down. When a "concept" with the production name shows up, it's almost always near-identical to the finished thing, they've already said this is nothing but a teaser. It's a good direction, even if they can't seem to get a lot of difference between this, VW, and Audi (look at that back end and then at the A1 concept).
