Sebring would possess a unique challenge to racing as it has two different surfaces. Tarmac which is prone to becoming slick when hot, and the cooler concrete. I would think that if Sebring was all concrete or all tarmac that it would require a different setup. And then there is the bumps coming onto and off of the main straight. These can easily get a car loose or make it really tight depending on the setup.

I can see why teams would do 24 hour testing there.

What do you guys think. Or if anyone has actually raced on Sebring does the various surfaces really make that much of a difference?

Anytime you have a surface change you get into setup difficulties. Mid-Ohio used to have large concrete patches at the apexes, where the asphalt had broken up. The edges of the concrete became very rough as the asphalt wore away over time.

You also have tire life issues as concrete can be very hard on tires, while yielding very low grip.

Lastly, concrete is probably the worst paving material ever conceived by mankind. Sure, it's strong, but it's also completely inflexible, and over time it will crack and break as it settles. Hard to make an asphalt runway that holds up to large bombers and cargo jets, though.
