Sector111 Elise/Exige action

I realize how some of you might not find this totally entertaining, but it has potential, especially the sound.

Sector111 is a US Elise/Exige parts vendor that's been around for a bit now, and they decided to throw together a vid. Both cars have aftermarket Arqray exhausts.

Those toyta enginrs sound great! how much for thst extra little punch?
 
800$-1,200$ for the stainless steel versions and 1,500$-2,400$ for titanium bits (lower prices are for single exhaust, twin-tips are more).

Yesterday an Aspen White Elise drove by me when I was downtown (I've only seen a handful over here), and I don't know for sure which exhaust it was using (2 Lotus models, Arqray, Quiksilver, Larini etc), but at low-mid RPM, I'm gonna have to admit it didn't sound amazing. It was a very flat and bassy noise. It would turn my head just by the noise, but I wouldn't expect a Lotus to be making it. But then again, I'm sure it sounds great when on cams.
 
Aren't the engines in the Elises and Exiges Celica T-Sport engines?


I thought I read it somewere, I'd wonder how they came on the idea of putting Toyota engines in it :confused:
 
They are the 2ZZ found in the Celica GTS, yes. The motor was tuned by Lotus and Yamaha for the Elise and Exige, receiving an extra 10 horsepower over the Celica's unit (also found in the top-model Matrix).

There were 5 choices to replace the Rover K-series, the 2ZZ won because of it was relatively cheap, very reliable and the lightest of the finalists.
 
I agree about the noise. The Elise doesn't sound that great when you're in the cruising RPM range... specially when you're off throttle and the car is slowing down. It's very bass-y with a lot of drone to it. You probably heard the stock exhaust.
I'm no expert with exhausts but the main limiting factor (as I've read) is the engine. There's only so much you can do to make a 4-cyl sound good.

Apparently it's half decent, and I gotta say this Arqray is also very nice.

Well,if i was working there,i would consider high revving S2K's VTEC,probably already tuned or something.
 
S2000 configuration does not work because the car's transmission is an FR piece, and the Elise is MR, demandring a donation from an FF car.

The Honda lumps are too heavy as well.

You are absolutely right:) . However if Lotus REALLY wanted the lightest engine, they would have kept the Rover K, only weighing around 80kg instead of 115 kg of 2ZZ.
 
They needed an alternative. Things weren't looking so hot over at Rover, and ultimately ended up dying. The Toyota seems like the perfect change, although many people gripe about the accute powerband.
