Seeing the bonnet

I think that something that is really missing from GT3 is not being able to see the bonnet or hood or whatever you call it. It would have a much better feel if you could actually see part of the car in front of you.
That brings to mind something else. I'm assuming the view from inside the car is from the centre. It'd be great if you could buy a left or right hand drive car and actually see out from that side. Nevermind about side screens and periphial views, a little(?) touch like that in my opinion would make all the difference.

Actually the inside view is not centered, if you switch back and forth between inside and ground view during replays you'll notice it..

I would love a bonnet cam, and a for the outside cam to be actually usable.

An inside cam would be welcomed.

I prefer being able to see every inch of road in front of my bumper. Bonnet cams are rarely realistic and seem to get in the way imo, a waste of rendering cycles.

I would prefer an in-car Dash board view. But in the actual drivers perspective like on WRC 3

while undoubtably the bumber cam in the GT series is the only way to play in my opinion, it leaves a lot to be desired in terms of value.
The big wide open space leaves you wondering just exactly where you are in relationship to the track, it is also to low and to close to the front of the car.

Seeing the bonnet would be a great improvement as it would give a slightly higher view point, and a diffinitive guide to your relationship with the track as well as being closer to the driver, it would also give a greater enhancement to the view of weight transfer.
Problem for bonnet cams is the view tends to be central, and unrealistic to anything than a single seater racer. or mac F1!

However i would prefer the drivers view point from TOCA Pro Race driver, which although cr@p game had a fantastic drivers view, the driver was seated to one side, and where the driver was moving independantly of the car feeling the bumps of the road, acceleration, deceleration, etc, It gave an immenses sense of being in the car, and allowed feeling for what was going on much better than a rigid in car cockpit view featured in most other games where the drivers view is fixed static in relationship to the car

Haven't played it so I'll have to trust your judgement - your reasoning for including a different POV sounds great to me. What views were in prologue?

Bumber cam, standard behind, and a way high up behind that meant the car was fixed rigid in the centre of screen and the track moved.
The final view, sounds especially odd (I dont have proogue, so havent tried it) But all behind cams for me are useless for sim games, for arcade racers there fine but not sim.

As much as I agree with GTXLR, I must say that I actualy think that in-car view will probably not been seen in GT game untill PS3.

But as for PS2, I can only wish view from F355 Challenge game, that would be more then enough for me.

BTW
Intresting fact is that in GT3 you can actually see in-car view. During the replay of GT-R Pennzoil on Midifield Track (S Licence Test) game is actaully shownig translucent in-car view, including bonnet, side roof holder (perforated, cool :)) and NISMO sticker on windshiled which is blocking part of the view. So, it can be done, but question is under which cirucmstances.

o_O That is an interesting fact. Well spotted...

The high above angle sounds a bit like how it was in NFS2 and the original GT.

Amar,
I to dont believe we will see an in car view for Gt4,
Just wishing we had something slightly better than the bumper cam.

Reguarding your inview comment i Did infact post a pic on the Granturismo.com forum way back before Gt3 was released from an ingame shot in a magazine which showed a in car view with the dashboard and wipers albiet in silouhette form (ie all black).

But I cant seem to get on to the Granturismo.com site on my new pc to see if its still there.
Does anyone no if Kenjis Granturismo.com is still going

For the new behind view camera, download the 'GT Replay' video of the Ford GT (first on top, from April 27th) here.

http://media.ps2.ign.com/media/489/489327/vids_1.html

That'll give you an idea.
I'm with you on the behind view cameras. I find them totally useless. But some players enjoy it more and like to see their car's emplacement on the track at all time. Good for them.

I'd wish for a bonnet or hood in front and perharps even a driver's seat position. But seeing through a windshield would be too much in my opinion.

Damn IGN

I dont seem to be able to get any of the vids to download.
Any help would be appreciated.

All that happens when i click the choose format: windows media with the file name and size next to the image is makes the browser jump to the top of page.
clicking on the image also does nothing.

If i right click and use download manager it just shows me a whole host of IGN server files.

Any ideas

And I Am running XP, Windows media player 9, Norton firewall, download manger get right

It would be nice to have "driver's view" cam, with a bit of wheel and actual dash and maybe some hood with a dirty windshield and occational wipers (maybe player controled), but you have to keep in mind that that eats up a lot of your view. Additionally it would be cool to see the view of the car shift left and right, up and down, as you corner and brake and accelorate because the driver's head would be shifting around. Also, in Ace Combat 04 the right thumbstick is "head control" or something and you can look around with it. That would be COOL so you could look over and see if the guy next to you is in your way on a corner entrance. I sometimes loose sight of a car when they are in my blind spot.

I think people also appreciate behind car cams so they can just see their car and how shiny it is.

Moving heads, dirty windshields and the rest are all great ideas but they're complex to implement. There's also the problem imo that the more choices you give people the more confused and differentiated they get. I think that's why GT has stuck with just two views that cater to the widest variety of audiences and hence save the most space in game and in terms of rendering power. The exact same screen render can be used regardless of car with only slight modifications to Y axis positioning without having to add hundreds of variables. If you want dirty windscreens, why not a working damage model too? If they add an in car view, great, if not, I'll be happy with a new physics engine and all the other changes.

yeah a bonnet cam that would make it even more realistic.
You could get a bnnt cam in GT2 with gameshark codes:D

It would be awesome to actually see the wheel, with the driver's hands on it, and then the hand moving when shifting the car, awesome I tell you!

o_O Seems general concensus is against me. Rats. As long as they don't scrap the bumper cam which I can't see happening. Bring on the in car cam if it makes you guys happy.

I've always been a fan of 'bonnet' view and always disappointed at the fact the Polyphony have not done anything about this yet.

When i play any WRC game or TOCA game i find the bonnet view to be the easiest.
You can see the front of the car and the distance between it and the barrier/opposition and the camera isn't moving about making things (to me) easier to drive.

Wasn´t there a pic of a bonnet cam when the first screens of the muscle cars came up ? I think i can remember seeing a green hood with white stripes. Looked through all of IGN and Gamespot but could not find it. Anyone else remeber that ?

I definetly would love a bonnet cam, since with the behind perspective that i usually drive with ( let me live, let me live ) it is partially hart to tell the space between the car and a wall.

the bonnet view shown with the green muscle car was a replay shot of the roof mount camera showing the hood.
This was also in GT3.
