I'm just wondering if I am allowed to "Sell my signature"(auction?) with a service like http://www.sigbay.com - It looks like you get paid to put a URL in your signature, no advertising, just a plain link

What are the rules regarding this?

Thank you

Because you are allowed to advertise your own sites in your signature.

I don't know how this will affect the rules though.

I can see how putting a link to a advertisement will make you very unpopular. Who likes to watch commercials on TV? Who likes to read all the poop-up ads? In less I'm missing something, your signature will link to advertisements that you have no control over. Is that correct?

Advertising via a link and text in your sig isn't against the rules here and I wouldn't have any problem with it. However adverts like the ones at the top of these forums for non premium users in a sig would cause big problems, especially for premium users who have paid for an ad free experience here (that's if you could even have a picture up. Because I think ad's in your sig would still show up for premium users.

Well, all it would be is a small text link (no more stylish as my sig :P), not a banner ad. I, too, wouldn't really mind it.

Links to your own personal site are fine, but commercial advertising posted by users is prohibited.

You will not post any material that is knowingly false, misleading, or inaccurate.
You would have no control over the content to which you will be linking to. Not a good idea.

You will not post advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, or solicitations, all of which are inappropriate and prohibited in public areas of the Forums. This includes any solicitations to buy or sell a product or service of any kind outside of any designated areas.
You are not a premium member and therefore not allowed to sell anything on this site.

Ofcourse, I overlooked an angle in my last reply, why should Jordan have people paying to have adversts on this site for non premium users only for other companies to not be paying him.

Howerver I do have a question, it's closer to the border, what if I linked my own site, but that site contained a section with a shop? Not that I'm thinking of linking such a site, but in the past I did have a web site up regarding my business with mobile phones and I did for a very brief period have it linked in my sig, then I thought it wasn't appropriate so I took it out.

What about the Trading post? Non-premium users are still allowed to trade their own personal items there, aren't they?

v I see... ah well v

And, of course, all this could simply have been answered by referring to the good old Acceptable Use Policy:
You will not post advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, or solicitations, all of which are inappropriate and prohibited in public areas of the Forums. This includes any solicitations to buy or sell a product or service of any kind outside of any designated areas.
A commercial link in your signature would be considered an advertisement.

the board description
The Trading Post
Buy, sell, and trade games, electronics, books, or whatever with other GTPlanet members! Anyone can buy these products or services, but you must be a GTPremium Member to create new threads.

sell your sig? thats stupid.

make a sig about what you want to make a sig about, not what some stupid company wants you to have a sig about

Your example here is perfectly fine - there is a difference between linking to a site which contains advertising and actually selling space on "my" web real estate. Your site is "your" real estate, and you're free to do what you want with it.

what if the link is not to a site I own but that I'm actually a member of like this one for example

forum.evotechnik.net

its a car forum that I'm a part of ....

That's fine, as it isn't a commercial website actively hauking wares. The general rule of thumb, is what Jordan cited above. If you're using his web space to sell stuff, it is not acceptable.
