Hi guys,

FYI, I'm 62 (A=30, B=39+) and have played all the GT games from the beginning. Here's my take: 1) A-Spec is too short but the new seasonal events sort of make up for it 2) still waiting for damage 3) why no individual gear ratio allowances? 4) the X-2010 car is interesting but quite unrealistic. It actually affects one's ability to drive the "normal" cars after driving them for a spell 5) it would be nice to be able to create our own car lineups in races like one of the former GT games had 6) have any of you older guys memorized all the turns in the Nurburgring? 7) which of the endurance races in A-Spec have you done - I've ony done 2 (Grand Valley and Indy) 8)how about some new tracks in the form of DLC? like those from the other GT games? 9) on-line racing is a joke - seems like some people are using the X cars they didn't earn and making a mess of things because they driving skills are lacking with that car? 10) but after all these complaints, I love this game! (BTW, Forza 3 isn't so bad either - I play it while the endurance B-Spec races are going on.)

Hi guys,

FYI, I'm 62 (A=30, B=39+) and have played all the GT games from the beginning. Here's my take:
1) A-Spec is too short but the new seasonal events sort of make up for it
> Agreed, but I really miss the manufacturer races.

2) still waiting for damage
> Never been that bothered about damage, but would have liked simulated damage that effects eg handling. Visual does not really matter to myself.

3) why no individual gear ratio allowances?
> Agreed. Bad miss, along with saving multiple tunes.

4) the X-2010 car is interesting but quite unrealistic. It actually affects one's ability to drive the "normal" cars after driving them for a spell
> Agreed a glitzy addition, not necessary.

5) it would be nice to be able to create our own car lineups in races like one of the former GT games had
> Not too bothered about this, add manufacturer races and online, and that is good enough for myself.

6) have any of you older guys memorized all the turns in the Nurburgring?
> Yes ! Mission 34 in GT4 made sure of that.

7) which of the endurance races in A-Spec have you done - I've only done 2 (Grand Valley and Indy)
> Both in Aspec plus Tsukuba but nothing over 4hours so far, 4hr Ring once I finish Bspec.

8)how about some new tracks in the form of DLC? like those from the other GT games?
> Some should have been included in the initial release, another bad miss.

9) on-line racing is a joke - seems like some people are using the X cars they didn't earn and making a mess of things because they driving skills are lacking with that car?
> I have only been in private rooms so cannot comment.

10) but after all these complaints, I love this game!
> Like not love, I do not see this getting the replay value of GT4.

> above plus; you missed:

- the XP system, very poor implementation - they should have included a way to increase your XP like GT4's Aspec by lowering specs, adding weight etc (or tied events to licenses)
- Bspec, another poor implementation, most importantly not being able to share Endurance duties with Bobs.

As a PS3 launch game GT5 would have been brilliant, but now...a big disappointment. What have they been doing for the last 6 years ? But then I am going over old ground covered in various other threads.

P.S I am an over 50. :)

While I'm a relative spring chicken at 41, I appreciate the views of the older crowd. We older folks tend to call a spade a spade and don't get involved with the politics of the younger set.

I will say that doing the Gallardo race at Rome this afternoon I really was wishing for a better game. The combination of pushover AI and lack of damage really ruins the racing experience. I didn't upgrade the car yet I win easily by many seconds. I had a momentary lapse of concentration (say a "pre-senior moment"!) where I smacked in the wall sideways very hard. I was really wishing for a damage model - I wanted to pay for that mistake with degraded performance. Instead it was just a good old fashioned GT wall bounce. Barely dropped my speed.

50 years old ... A-spec 34, B-spec 35

I've completed the 9 hour endurance A-Spec once. i think I will need to do it at least two more times to move on to the first 24 hour race. IMO the grinding is simply terrible. Now that I won the X1 2010 (X1) I have no desire to keep grinding away. I might finish the B-spec endurance.

I think that the game it self is great. Having gone from GT3 and 4. I would say that graphics and game play wise, it was about what I expected. After reading all the hype and playing the evolving GTProlouge, I am disappointed that "Imagined", "Hope For" features were not included. Now that I am up to the grinding part of the game, ( I got all of the necessary cars and am looking at endurance races and grind to get FGT) I wish that licenses were actually part of the game, (required for entry to some races ) and that damage was a factor in the racing. All prize cars should be premium. Damaged cars could be sold and available in UCD. Also the weather should be a universal thing and not just some tracks.

50yo.....

Initially disappointed but now loving it......

Have started getting into on-line and created some single make rooms (Super GT), had an absolute ball for a few hours with some great racing......having Skid Force Recovery off seems to ensure some quality participants.....

Would like to see seasonal time trials with stock cars.......I can't be bothered spending ages tuning and stock cars may be better judge of where you stand driving wise, current method seems to reward tuning time/ability.....

Apologies to anyone affected when my connection dropped out the other night..........

nojoke48: I'm 62 (A=30, B=39+) and have played all the GT games from the beginning. Here's my take:

1) A-Spec is too short but the new seasonal events sort of make up for it
> I have a slow internet connection, so they don't help me.

2) still waiting for damage
> I don't really care about damage - I wanted the game sooner.

3) why no individual gear ratio allowances?
> I hope it will be fixed.

4) the X-2010 car is interesting but quite unrealistic. It actually affects one's ability to drive the "normal" cars after driving them for a spell.
> Sounds doubtful. Beyond doubtful, even.

5) it would be nice to be able to create our own car lineups in races like one of the former GT games had
> Maybe, if there is enough demand for it.

6) have any of you older guys memorized all the turns in the Nurburgring?
> Yes, pretty much.

7) which of the endurance races in A-Spec have you done - I've only done 2 (Grand Valley and Indy)
> Without some B-spec help, I won't do any.

8)how about some new tracks in the form of DLC? like those from the other GT games?
> Desperately needed, to expand the meager A-spec offering.

9) on-line racing is a joke - seems like some people are using the X cars they didn't earn and making a mess of things because they driving skills are lacking with that car?
> Sorry, I don't care.

10) but after all these complaints, I love this game!
> I loved GT-4. GT-5 is only big enough for me to like...

Also, more tuning options needed, more tracks, and as I said above, more A-spec. And I, too, would like to be able to share Endurance duties with Bobs.

I am 65 (A=24, B=24). Never too old for Gran Turismo!

Good Post,

Currently at Level 31 - A Spec and 29 - B Spec

FYI, I'm 62 (A=30, B=39+) and have played all the GT games from the beginning. Here's my take:

1) A-Spec is too short but the new seasonal events sort of make up for it
Agreed, I wish they would allow us to create our own races series (i.e Historic Race) which provided race credits and xp points based on length of race and difficulty settings

2) still waiting for damage
(same here)

3) why no individual gear ratio allowances?
Agreed, also why do all upgrades cost the same... also, why allow race saft tirews for a VW golf...etc!

4) the X-2010 car is interesting but quite unrealistic. It actually affects one's ability to drive the "normal" cars after driving them for a spell
Still can not drive this car to obtain Bronze

5) it would be nice to be able to create our own car lineups in races like one of the former GT games had Yes, stated this above

6) have any of you older guys memorized all the turns in the Nurburgring?
I find this track the best track in GT5... I've not memorized every turn, but I know it very well!

7) which of the endurance races in A-Spec have you done - I've ony done 2 (Grand Valley and Indy)
All through Indy... I'm at level 31

8)how about some new tracks in the form of DLC? like those from the other GT games?
Yes... Please

9) on-line racing is a joke - seems like some people are using the X cars they didn't earn and making a mess of things because they driving skills are lacking with that car?
My Connection does not allow for online line racing - Sat. Connection

10) but after all these complaints, I love this game! (BTW, Forza 3 isn't so bad either - I play it while the endurance B-Spec races are going on.)
Wow, same here, and I thought I'm the only 50yr. old that did this.... :sly:

Great Thread, no way it should be locked... for us Old Folks1

"HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT"

This game has none of the essential ingredients that made the GT series the hands-down standout of the console racers and a giant among all games, particularly as in GT4.
Most of which has already been mentioned.

This has been my concern since Soony's marriage to PD.

To me, its difficult to fiqure the reason for the radical departure, outside of this influence.

At any rate I think we may have seen the last of the Great GT installments.

IMO they have backed up to the also-ran status of all the other console racers.

Now having said that, I like playing the game and it has some good features, mainly graphics and physics.
However that can't make up for the things that are missing.

The difference is its OK, not GREAT. I like playing it instead of, love playing it.
That GT content, challenge, attention to detail, that creates the irresistible draw isn't there.

Perhaps the next iteration of GT can be something like Red Dead Turismo, and all you old timers can pimp up your horses and carts.

Hi guys,
........

4) the X-2010 car is interesting but quite unrealistic. It actually affects one's ability to drive the "normal" cars after driving them for a spell.

Absolutely...
Which is why I'll never but it.

53 years young. 👍

Something like this maybe

Or maybe Turbo goat for old Goats :)
Did I really say that? Shame on me.

I can't see the relevance of this thread being exclusively for over 50's.

When your over 50 you will.

Its one of those "you had to be there" type things.

Touche grasshopper.

Unfortunately, this thread is the reason i see this site as going down hill.

We have new members double posting, and complain when they are told off, and here is a reasonable question, being jumped on by others, now complaining about ageism. I'm getting to the point of not wanting to come here any more.

I´m 47 so i feel old enough to comment.

All in all, I prefer GT4. I will not do online events, because of all the bully boy kids that think they are Senna.

A spec is not full enough. To me, if they had copied GT4 and add day/night wet/dry, I would have been happy. B spec, hmmm, not interested.

Most, if not all of the OP points have been brought up many times before and been discussed many times before. None of them are suited to an over 50 viewpoint, i mean anyone who has played the game will be aware of them.

Having a thread title as over 50 only, will instantly alert some of the, more vocal element, to voice their take on it.

What next, myself opening a thread saying that only people who live in my house can voice their opinion in it.

Hang in there Popeye.
Hope springs eternal, there's always GT6.

I feel confident you will be over 50 by the time its released.

I just hope we aren't all in a nursing home or worse by then.

All in all, I do too and truly lament the loss of potential.
Oh well maybe GT6 will redeem this franchise.
We can only hope.

I'm not 50 but I'm old enough to have learnt to drive when most cars didn't have ABS or power assisted steering.

I can remember all the turns at the ring but unfortunately have trouble remembering my own name :-)

The game is far from perfect but it's growing on me. I find myself driving by feel more and more which makes it more fun. I haven't played on-line yet but I've found the new AI fun to race with as long as I don't over tune my cars.

As soon as I'm done with the 2 24 hour events, which to be honest is the only reason I bought the game, I shall be returning to the underworld of GT4. And starting a new game save, I shall play till my hearts content. Although its possible I shall be nearer 55 when 6 comes out.
