this is the famous video of Senna and Prost fighting it out in karts in a race in France. I'm not exactly sure of the details, but from what I heard, it was for charity, and I'm sure the tickets were well worth however much the cost was.

especially check out the video of Senna testing the NSX at Suzuka and pay attention to the heel-toe camera. as the description says, you get to take a good look at his unique driving style. it notes instead of doing the accepted method of being smooth and progressive with the accelerator, he is always tapping the throttle and blipping the engine and then burying the throttle. not to make myself seem better or anything, but I realized after watching this video and analysing his driving style, I realized that my driving style is very similar thanks to GT4. I looked back at my driving in GT4 and realized that I had always done the same thing with my throttle control and also realized that it carried over into my karting and autoX'ing. I still do it, but I am more aware of it when I do it. I just found that to be a neat coincidence, hah!

anyway, I hope you enjoyed the videos. I had to share them with everyone because I knew you guys would love this stuff, I did!

I edited it to show the links to the video instead of trying to embed the video in the post. I realized the embeded video wouldn't load, so there you go! enjoy.

LOL, Senna's appearance in that Japanese tv show is really funny. He handles it very well, as most people would be very much embarassed in that situation. Schumacher would not be able to handle that situation at all, I am sure. Senna was seen as a God in Japan and was maybe even more popular there than in Brazil. Cool videos, keep on posting!👍

* I remember reading an article in which Prost talks about Senna. After the Japanese GP, Prost wanted to exchange helmets with Senna, as it might be their last race together on the podium (it wasn't, as 1993's last GP at Adelaide was another Senna 1, Prost 2). Senna did not reply and as it turns out, he already promised this Japanese tv host that he would get the helmet Senna was wearing during the Japanese GP. But I am not that sure if Senna would have agreed with Prost's proposal if he had not promised to give the helmet to the tv host.

in karting ,you should really be either on or off the throttle fully, not feathering and blipping it.

Yep, the reason Senna did so:
Ayrton Senna perplexed the Honda engineers with the data traces of his throttle pedal movements. In corners he was continuously on and off the throttle at a high frequency, making the data look as if it was faulty. He explained that that was exactly what he was doing to keep the turbo spinning and overcome the lag, without having excessive power delivered to the rear wheels. In control terms, he was "pulse-width modulating" the throttle i.e. opening and closing it fully, but using the ratio of the time it was open to the time it was closed to control the torque of the engine.

from what I've found, in Briggs & Stratton karts you want to be as smooth as possible (at least at our track, it hasn't been paved in over 20 years). I've been trying different techniques in my first season. I've found that it really depends on the corner. for the most part, you want the transition from full braking to full throttle to be seamless and gradual, especially in the slower corners. I've never driven a two-cycle kart though, although I have driven a World Formula kart that has about 18hp. I learned I could really toss it around without losing a whole lot of speed. I was still smooth with my steering inputs, but I would blip the throttle to get the kart around the corner. I've heard you can be a bit more careless with more powerful karts (two-cycle sprint karts and shifters) because you have more power to cover up for your mistakes. in a Briggs kart, if you make a single mistake, you're likely to lose a position or two. but like I said, I just started racing (this is my first season), and I'm still experimenting with different techniques, but I've found that being smooth and relaxed makes the laptimes drop.

oh, and bump.
