SUMMER OF SENSIBLE SOCCER LOVE

Arcade footie going for goal this summer - Codemasters celebrates with new screenshots

Summer 2006 is to witness the return of fondly regarded football series Sensible Soccer, Codemasters has announced this morning.

Sensi Soccer's being resurrected on PS2, Xbox and PC and, retaining the fast-paced, arcade-style gameplay of the original titles along with the footballers with overgrown heads, boasts a new 3D cel-shaded visual style. And to ensure the new outing is 100-percent grounded in Sensi Soccer lore, Codemasters has brought in Jon Hare, designer and producer of the original Sensible Soccer, to act as games design consultant.

"The all new Sensi is the perfect blend of past, present and future with all the speed, fun and playability of the original combined with all the animations, four-player fun and spiced up with a magical sprinkling of original gameplay features that have never been seen before, including a mega single-player mode, 360-degree control and video style replays featuring cel-shaded caricatures of those lovable big-headed players," says Hare about the latest Sensible Soccer venture.

In related news, Codemasters' mobile division is releasing Sensible Soccer Skillz, for mobile phones in Q2. Sensible Soccer Skillz brings the fun of the original 2D football game to your phone in a series of challenges and mini-games.

I enjoyed Sensible Soccer on the good old C64, i would say Sensible Soccer is a legend of a game.

Best. Game. EvAH.

Though the last resurrection of it was bobbins. Hopefully, with Jon involved, it'll retain the character of the original.

Was Sensible Soccer the Amiga top-view footie game? - or am i thinking of Kick-Off 2? Which one could you swerve the ball?

We spent far too much time at uni playing that game, in fact it almost got in the way of drinking!

That's the one. Twas also on SNES and some other platforms. It didn't have a Fifpro licence so the players were like: Tony Odoms, Ian Wroight, Stuart Peerce e.t.c

I'll bring the A1200 to the next UKGTP meet and take you ALL on... :D

I would even bring my A1200 up to the next GTP GT4 lan meeting, but only if i knew where it was.

If it's not top down and 2D it's not bloody sensible.

And like Famine I remember the last incarnation being terrible.

Although I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.
