Sentimental about cars? Anyone getting tired of FGT?

So I did the Grand Valley Endurance Race with the FGT I got from the used dealership for a relatively easy $2.5 cred. You can basically win any unrestricted race with this F1 car. But since doing this endurance race, and lapping everybody 15 times, I got tired of it real fast.

I'm kind of sentimental about "the chase." Not a chase so difficult that it becomes frustrating, but just enough to be exciting. I don't like cars like FGT because it's just too damn easy and there's no romance? glamour? thrill? to racing with it. It beats the **** out of everything it comes up against.

I'm sentimental about the following cars. I love to use them, even if it's a little harder:

Corvette ZR1 C6 09
Not very pretty, it kinda looks like a Ferrari imitator, but getting this car really opened up the game for me and the RM greatly improved its appeal for me. Actually fun to drive, imho.

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG 10
Never been a fan of MB until this car. So sexy and drives great. I was excited about its interior as well. I gave it a perfect tune-up so its grip during turns is pretty great.

Ford GT
Handles like a tank. Not very fast for its class. But I love this car's history, it's homage to the Le Mans Ford GT40, and it's overall American appeal. By the latter I mean that after playing GT5 long enough, you realize there aren't too many American cars that blow your hair back. This one is like your first car: not a great drive, cheap, a bit clunky, but you love it because it's familiar.

Citroen C4 WRC 08
What can I say? I'm a sucker for rally. Loeb is the best there is. I had to have this car. I even went ahead and bought it, even though you can win it in the rally Special Events in expert. Couldn't wait for that. I used to **** on French cars because I thought they were weak, but this thing can MOVE. And I think it looks great.

Ferrari 599 06
WHY HAS NO ONE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THIS CAR? Seriously, everybody raves about the usefulness of the Nissan GT-R and the Corvette ZR1 C6 (and I agree they're great) but nobody talks about how a full tune-up of this car turns it into an unstoppable beast. It also looks much better than the hideous Enzo. The Enzo may be fast, but it looks like ****. That imitation F1 style isn't working for me. But the 599 has all the looks, but it also has better power than an Enzo if you give it a good tune up. I use this car for a lot of Special Events and destroy there. It can also clean house in any Italian or Ferrari specific race series. A must have, imho.

Well, those are the cars I'm really sweet on.

So I was wondering:

Is anyone else sick to death of just using an F1 car as the go-to for absolutely everything? Bored sick of this tyrant?

If so, what cars are you sentimental about? I mean, what did you buy just so you could drive it in practice and enjoy the experience?

P.S.
Sentimental race track: Cote d'Azur. Beautiful rendering.

Thanks!

Well…I'm not too fussed about the whole FGT thing. You want to GT to turn into the 'ultimate grinding simulator' (quoting a friend), your choice.

As for cars that make me sentimental? Um…let's see…

Ford GT- Good looking car, beautiful memories. Bought it just to relive my GT5P 'glory days' when 9/10 online races I entered I'd win. Has to be Tuscan black (?) with white stripes for me to feel any hint of sentimentality though :D

Honda NSX Type R- Pretty much the same story as the GT, only I have two of these, and that it drives beautifully compared to the GT.

My mate's Renault Clio V6- Raced against it so many times that when he handed the keys to it over to me before he went back to college, I spent a good few days typing up some cheesy crap on it

Castrol Tom's Supra- Simpleton's racer. Easy to drive, fast as lightning, good looking, what's not to like?

Starting to really like the 599. It's lovely in every way!

I know what you mean about races being too easy sometimes, but I guess you have to make the decision yourself to choose a lesser car and slug it out all race long rather than win easily.

I struggled in the dtm seasonal at eiger using the same tyres as the rest of the field and car kept stock.

Yeah, I guess I shouldn't hate on the FGT TOO much. It has gotten me out of some tight spots with races that felt impossible, so I resorted to that. It has its usefulness. But I sense in myself the urge to just go to that any time I'm struggling, and it's really stupid. Because honestly, the FGT (while it is fun to drive) is not as fun as the SLS AMG or the Ferrari 599.

The Ferrari in particular is a fun drive. I have three Ferraris: the 512BB (which is good early on but soon becomes obsolete), the California (basically worthless unless you're taking pictures of it and showing off) and the 599 (perfect). Even though some Ferraris are more "useful" than others, I think they're all great to drive. Can't say the same for their main competitor, Lamborghini. Those handle like the go-karts. Impossible to keep them from fishtailing at high speeds. The exception would be the SuperVeloce, but even that one I don't particularly care for.

I recently got my FGT and only put a couple hundred kilometers on it. However, it was something different from what I'm used to (which is good). I'll probably get tired of it after a while like I do for most cars.

I really have a soft spot for my first car, the Civic Type R '97 and my mistress, the NSX-R. The Civic is the car that I've spent most time on fine tuning and it just hit 1000 km a couple of days ago. The NSX is still a work in progress but it's getting there. You can probably tell that I love Honda chassis (plural, chasses?). I'll never let go of those two. Another car that I love is my Skyline 350GT Sedan. It's my first real drift machine before I moved on to the FT-86. I logged many hours trying to perfect that Sedan but I can't really seem to get it the way I want. I'm proud that it could fully drift Suzuka East. Yeah yeah, it isn't big of a deal. But it was hours of tuning paying off in one sweet continuous drift. I also adore the JDM classics like the Hakosuka and the Hachiroku. I treat most, if not all my cars as I would in real life.

The old 512BB really holds sentimental value. Have one in real life that belonged to my father. First car I bought in this game besides the starter car and I am currently restoring it in real life!

I like the fgt fully detuned. 50% power and 200 added weight. Makes it feel like a shifter kart and it is so FUN!

Any particular reason you dig the Honda chassis? I will say I'm enjoying my Honda CIVIC TYPE R (EK) RM '97. It handles like a dream and isn't terrible to look at for a compact. It's also good for a bunch of races, so it's paying for itself and the pricey RM I gave it. Also a realistic buy irl, which is nice.

The Hondas aren't bad, but I'm not crazy about their attempts at sports cars, like your mistress (no offense.) I don't see the appeal.

Though I recognize being way into the Ferraris (except that damn Enzo) is a bit typical. I'm trying to expand into the German cars. I'm thinking of investing in one of those Audi Quattros.

The FGT is a great car. One of mine has over 15k miles on it. I do know what you mean about it wasting the competition. Even the A spec FGT series is easy to win if you tune the car to your driving style and you don't make a mistake. I haven't used that car in a long time. I may run the FGT series again today 👍

I drove the FGT for a couple of hours (doing the FGT championship). After that i drove the LMP / Group C Cars. My thoughts were: 'those cars are crap!'. That`s because the FGT is so much more superior. That`s the main reason why i dislike this car. With the X1 it is that much worse.

Well, the thing that got me into Hondas was their involvement with motorsports like F1, F2, and IRL and several others in Japan. I feel that some of what they do in motorsports translates into their "sports cars." The whole Type R range is inspired by racing. Another thing is their engines. High-revving and naturally aspirated. I can dig turbos and superchargers but forced induction takes away from the rawness of NA. But that's just me. Anyways, I have that soft spot for Hondas because I drive one (bias much? lol). And no offense taken on my mistress, to each their own. I just love the fact that it could serve as a daily driver and as a track car on the weekends. It has a lot of potential. Nissan and Toyota on the other hand... well, that's another story. I love me some Japanese cars.

Since the German Touring Seasonal, I'm also starting to get into German cars. I'm currently grinding on Ferrari Seasonal's La Sarthe race so I could branch out of Japanese cars. 500,000 Cr in less than 4 minutes!

Oh yeah, that Ferrari seasonal is the easiest way to grind for cash. I'm thinking about doing that today so I can buy that Citroen GT Race Car, and maybe even the plain old Citroen GT. Also need to buy that Audi though...

Yeah I'm afraid that when I finally get the X1, I'll use it for everything and then what's the point anymore, right?

Pescarolo C60 Hybride - I love LMP cars, and this one is by far my favorite. By rights it shouldn't be faster than the GT-One, Bentley, or a couple of the others, but I can honestly just fly with this thing (I turned a 3:16.3xx on Le Mans at night in it) I've spent a good long time setting it up so that it doesn't spin the tires out of every corner, and it is now just a real pleasure to drive.

Triumph Spitfire - I race a 1963 Spitfire 1147 in the real world, so I have a pretty strong emotional attachment to this car, not to mention the fact that in a low horsepower race it is pretty dominant.

Shelby GT350R - I am a vintage guy at heart, and have a deep love for Mustangs in particular, but to me this is by far the greatest ever built, and as with the others, I find this to be a great challenge in driving. I always love to hear the pissed off children in their ricers when I beat them in a 550Pp race.

Formula Gran Turismo - Now I know you guys seem to all look down on this car, and thats understandable, but I do 9/10s of my racing online against other people, and some of my most fun races have been one make events with the FGT. Open wheel racing is always cool in the real world, and I feel as though that carries over to GT5.

Ferrari 330P4 - Last but not least is the old Ferrari. I saw one at the reopening of Virginia International when I was younger and have had a love affair with the car ever since. When I found out that it was in the game I flipped, and you shoulda heard me when I got it from my 67 ticket. This to me is the most fun car in the game, and I doubt that that opinion will ever change.

I really want that 330P4. How did you get it?

It's for sale at the Ferrari Dealership for $20M. You can also get it from a '67 Birthday Ticket (1 out of 10 chance), Level 21 Ticket (1 out of 26 chance), or 1,000 Ticket. 👍

On-topic: I find that I've become fond of the Ferrari 458 Italia. With a good tune, this car is really fun to drive. I became enamored with it during my grind sessions of the Ferrari Seasonals, as I did not own an Enzo at the time.

I also really enjoy the 2010 Camaro SS. Another car that is a blast to drive with a good tune. The RM model as well. 👍

The FGT is a fun car to drive, but I will admit that the FGT Championship is a pain. I used the Red Bull for all of my B-spec grinding, but to be honest, I haven't done many A-spec endurance races. I would think that lapping the field 15 times would be pretty boring, so I will choose a car closer to the competition, when I attempt them.

I have a 67 Ticket if you would like. To be sure that you get the Ferrari, get a USB, save your game (with the ticket) to it, then use the ticket. If you don't get the P4 delete your save data from the PS3 then reupload it from the USB. Repeat till you get your car.

I won the 330P4 from a ticket, didnt realise the odds were that long, that was lucky!
Love the FGT, my favourite car but the car that makes me feel nostalgic is the Calibra touring car because I have owned the Turbo and 2.0L red top in real life and they were fliers :)
I also love the VX220T because its the next car I am getting. Aside from real life I suppose the Carlton is the nostalgia car.
Looks like I have a 'thing' for vauxhall's :)

Not really sentimental, but a car that is actually fun to drive, not just a machine. The Mitsubishi i Concept, not fast, but tuned up its a fun, slidey, cool sounding, fun car.

Yes, I'm tired of the Formula GT after just one race. After putting off the Formula GT championship for 6 months, I finally decided to lay into it tonight, with the GT network being offline and all. I must say, I didn't like it much.

But then again, I don't really like extremely fast cars. I'm an absolute sucker for road cars, and I'm an absolute sucker for a good race. I never race something I know won't get a run for its money, and I don't mind doing the same seasonal over and over 10 times inching out increasingly better lap times until I decide I can't drive any better and ever so slightly bolt on some parts until I have it beat. Doesn't hurt to get a fortune even for finishing 2nd or 3rd.

Peugot 106 s16: This is probably the most fun anyone can have in an FF car. Granted, it's not the fastest, the Integra definately has it beat, as does some others, but it can beat cars way out of its class due to its sheer nimbleness. But you have to be careful with the tune - you can only put so much power into it, and trying a fully customised suspension will only give you a headache and a poor handling car. But with a sports suspension, stock LSD and various tunings, this is arguably one of the fastest cars in its PP range. And amazingly fun!

Ferrari F430: Well, technically it's the Scuderia. But remembering how much I enjoyed the F430 in GT5 Prologue, I quickly got my hands on one in GT5, and it did not let me down. You can do so much with it, and you constantly feel you can push it knowing that just that slight bit of extra power will send it into a frenzy. It's not the fastest, it's not the best handling, it's just fun!

Lotus Evora: This, I discovered only this weekend, having had it on my shortlist of cars to play around with for a loooong time. And I was surprised. This is probably the most fun car I've ever driven in any GT game. It's definately not the fastest car on the market, and I even struggle to find races to put it in (note to self: Go do Grand Valley 300 again), but it's so much fun I don't mind just racing with myself. Bang stock it's incredibly fun, it'll do whatever you tell it to and you still have control. Want to tuck in and get out of that hairpin fast? Ok, it'll do that. Want to powerslide that long chicane over there? No problem, coming right up! It's twitchy, it's itching to be driven and it's just so much fun. Oh, and you can tune it too. I ended up trying the tune from RVR, but you have to be very careful. Too much power and it'll be undriveable. But right there on the edge, and it retains all the features, only doing it faster. Absolutely astonishing ride!

Honda NSX Type R '02: Another car I'd delayed playing around with in GT5, but one I cared for a lot in earlier incarnations. This is definately one of the most composed supercars around. It is so stable and easily one of the most balanced MR cars around, but if you really want to, you can put it into a controlled slide. And if you didn't mean to, you can catch it again. This is another car you can tune up quite well and it'll go a long way before the hp breaks the handling.
Incidentally, I can't drive the Acura NSX '91, it's way too heavy and has understeer coming into a corner and oversteer coming out. It just feels bulky. But my lord, is its successor a ride worthy of kings. I was so pleased with it I took it out for a spin at GV300 last night, and it was a pleasure just driving along having it do exactly what you tell it to. You can pretty much control your laptimes to within .2s with it. It's got great variety.

I could go on, there are many, many other cars I love driving and most of them I love watching the replay afterwards (I play with cockpit view on premiums and bumper on standards) and just watch how beautiful they are and how they each have their own specific driving style. I could write page after page after page about all those cars that make you go "Aaaah", "Whoa", "Aaaaaargh" and give you many other sensations, but I'd best save that for a thread of its own if I wanted to.

In conclusion, I think there's tons of value to be had. Both the sentimental value, that marque you always cared for, that poster you had on the wall as a kid (where's my Testarossa and where's Samantha Fox?) or your very first car. But also in terms of driving experience, getting to know those little details that sets cars apart, feeling the ride and how far you can push it. Hell, even just going into your own private lobby and driving a bunch of different cars around for hours, doing exactly what you like and powersliding them around, or taking a Volvo 240 to Nordschleife in the rain at night.

I personally love the FGT, but then again, I am an Indy nut, and this is the closest thing to it in GT5. (So far?...). Did the Indy enduro with it, just because it wouldn't feel right not doing it that way.

What is the FGT?

What is the FGT?

FGT is the Formula Gran Turismo. It's a made-up F1 car that you can buy in the used dealership when it shows up. I got mine for 2.5 mil, and it beats just about everything. But driving it is like watching paint dry.

Got it! now I know what you are talking about. thanks:sly:

My audi TT-R touring car. Oh my god the amount of time iv spent in this thing. I learnt the nurbo from this car. it is my favourite and its sad that the clk is faster as a dtm car because i love this car so much. i would even let my girlfriend have a go on it incase she hurt it :|
