Our new Opteron server is ready to go, and now that I'm back from the U.S. Grand Prix, I can begin work on moving the site to the machine! I am exhausted right now, but I will begin sometime in the late morning. To prevent loss of data (posts, new members, etc.), the forums will have to be closed on our old server. So, until your local DNS servers point to our new IP address, the forums will appear closed. Once your local DNS server updates, you will be viewing the site on the new server where the forums will be open as normal. This is a process that could take 3 days, at the longest. The rest of the site will be online as normal and you shouldn't notice any change. I am not sure, however, if the videos will work for you since you won't be able to login to the forums.

Following the server move, I will update the look of the site with GTP6.1, correcting a few of the most common complaints about GTP6. So, keep an eye out for the new changes and let me know if you guys have any questions! :)

EDIT: Our new server is now online and you are using it right now. :D

Yes, good luck, and we all do appreciate the tremendous amount of effort you put into this site for us. :)👍 I'm always amazed at how you're able to upkeep this gigantic site by yourself.

Good luck, Jordan. And I hope this stops the problems thats been going on with the current server. :)

But 1 question Jordan, when will it go back up? It won't be no GTP6 update time will it?

Yeah, 3 days, is that your expected time or a if something really stuffs up time?

Everything works fine now but it says : Page Error sometimes when I want to post my quick reply or when I want ot save my changes in my profile(I hate it!)👎.
Good luck 👍 ;)

The server is changing to a new IP address. That means that all the Domain Name Mappings need to change too. This is done through Domain Name Services (DNS), which is a database that replicates across the internet.

That replication can take up to three days.

Unless this time is required for upgrades, perhaps you could place a temporary web page on the old server to tell us what is the new IP address of the site, in case of delays in the DNS replication?

Good luck with the upgrade, hope it all works out smoothly! :)

The forums haven't even closed yet, guys, so no, the move is not complete. I'm getting ready to begin now.

Always gotta hit me with this stuff on monday, the deadline for the weekly race series races. :irked:

Oh well, good luck with it and if I think of anything worthy of changing I wouln't hesitate to post up my suggestion.

Later.
btw, I hope you had fun in the US at our grand prix. :D
:luckydog:

Will GTP Premium rear it's head with 6.1? I hope with 6.1 you make the avatar size limit larger!

EDIT: The notification at the top of all the forums says that it was posted 2/21/04-7/22/04. It's a little strange. Also, why hasn't it started yet?

Has it already happened? the site went down for a little bit and I wanted to make sure we were running on the new server before I go posting again...

It sure feels faster, even though it was fast enough for me before 👍 , or maybe it's because there is less people on.

Good job Jordan and thanks. :)
Forumbrowsing should always be like this. :D

Edit: lol even the posting of this message was faster then before 👍

💡

These comments are all very good to hear. Let's just hope it keeps up these speeds... :) Now for tomorrow's agenda...GTP6.1!

Its really quick for me at work now but up until yesterday my home pc wouldnt find the server things ? I didnt try this morning but I hope it works at home tonight

HOLY CRAPTACULAR BATMAN !...

The server upgrade has really helped.. The Forums are lightning fast everywhere !... I'm SO impressed..

As always - Thank you for a job well done Jordan 👍

Things are definitely faster :) It is so nice not having to try and guess where to stop a page from loading, but timing it so the quick reply box is availalbe.

Thanks again Jordon 👍 Most awesomest webmaster in the world....ever

I am going to post this just to see how fast it really is...
EDIT: WOW!!!!! SUPER DEE DUPER!!! It's like being on a rollercoaster going 73 MPH feeling like you're going to throw up because of the ultimate g-force pushing your body through...ugh maybe not

Anyways THANK YOU!!! 👍 👍

Yeah, having just gotten DSL at home (finally) and with GTP on this new server, I have to say the speed situation is vastly improved. It's even notably faster at work where I already had broadband.

Excellent work, Jordan, and thanks, as always!
