Hiya

I run a small league with a group of freinds, but some are shall we say, eager to get to 1st place as quick as possible.

We have a mixed bunch of abilities, some good, some not so good.

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on settings that will promote fair racing and punish the ones that try to get 1st place at all costs.

I have found Strong Penalties to be too random, however, I have not used it in a while, so maybe a patch has dealt with that ?

What about Skid Recovery ? Trouble is, I am worried it will hinder the lesser drivers rather than make it more fair.

So if any of you have any ideas that may help, I would very much appreciate it

Many thanks

Paul :)

We do have penalties on, but not fully as I think they give too many random outcomes, are you suggesting that they work pretty well ?

If you have a thread for it just incorperate rules into it and take points off drivers who are pushing and shoving. Make it clear that it makes a better racing environment and dont be afraid to penalise them 👍
I cant stand penalties on personally as cars go invisible randomly and it takes some of the fun out, turn them off and nominate stewards to investigate incidents.

The penalty system is awful. I never use it, and I won't race in rooms that have them enabled. Simply watch the replay from time to time. If you see someone cheating, you let them know that it isn't tolerated, and if they do it again they'll be banned from future events. Establish the rules for the participants, and enforce them.

Bast races we have ever had online were 400 to 450pp with road cars only, light damage, skid recovery off, racing line, tcm, acm etc off, penalties off, boost off, real grip reduction, and medium sport or soft comfort tyres. Try it, Trolls normally go off early because of the lower grip on cold tyres, and careful skilled drivers get rewarded. As everyone gets better turn the boost on to keep the pack together.

If you are racing with friends or regulars then let them know that their behavior is unacceptable and they need to change or leave.

It's tough to do with friends but sometimes needs to be said. It's not fair for 1 or 2 people to annoy the rest of the group. If they leave because they don't want to change the way they race then you may be better off.

We've run four full race seasons of the RM Cappuccino and Alfa Zagato with penalties off, no damage and no aids except ABS without a problem. Penalties do not make honest racers, they are either honest or they are not. And penalties can unfairly punish some people who are not at fault as well. My suggestion is turn all penalties off, tell everyone you are strictly enforcing the GTPlanet Racing Rules, do some training before you start your season going over what is and what is not a legal pass, a legal corner etc. and then save replays and respond to any complaints you may have and be willing to punt repeat offenders.

Penalties a bit random in assigning blame.
If people drive dirty then just kick them.

The group that I race in always runs no aids (except ABS most of the time), full damage, tire wear on, no penalties, draft on weak. I may be forgetting something, but we run simulator settings. Full damage will discourage drivers from making stupid moves. Running these settings will encourage drivers to be clean, and those who don't have the patience will be weeded out.

In my experience full damage doesn't improve anyone's driving and often ends up severely penalizing a completely innocent driver. You go into a corner and the guy behind you brakes too late and runs into the back of your car, your race can be over. Someone divebombs you and runs into the side of your car, you can be damaged and race over. If penalties only accrued to the offending car it would be great. Take penalties off, call penalties on each other and the good and bad drivers will take car of each other quickly enough. A couple of pre-season, non-points races will help to sort things out.

I would strongly recommend that all members of your group read the Online Racing Rules

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=184984

As for settings I would use, no boost, slipstream weak, grip real, tyre wear/fuel on, light damage, penalties weak

With regard to aids I would ban srf & the driving line, just coz there's nothing similar in reality & I'd allow the other aids, some of the less skilled drivers in your group should be able to manage fine with these other aids.

Some other things which can help avoid contact is zooming in on the track map, it'll help you have a better idea of where other cars around you are. Some collisions are simply down to not being able to see where the cars are.

Remember there is a difference between aggressive driving & dirty driving.

Have fun

It is very difficult to get all together good racing, if all participants are not willing to cooperate. They can all read and know the rules of clean racing, but if they are not willing to go by them even in the heat of a race, it is just a loss of your time.

As written in posts above, the penalties and damage are not a proper solution. They work in most cases, but not allways. I find it that penalties are a bit better choice than damage.

I would also suggest trying some races with Boost ON. It is not right to race like that, if you want proper races, but as far as fun goes, it will deliver. Because it reduces the disadvantage of making mistakes or being shoved off into dirt and loosing time. It is easy to recover lost time and provides very close racing.

In the end the best solution for your case would just have to be tested. Have a few races just for testing and try out the suggestions here. You will be able to find the ones, that suit your needs best.

Comfort medium tires, No ABS, Penalties Strong, Weak Slipstream, No Boost, 10 Laps

Should make all the TGTT Drag Racers Dissapear.
