You can "shortcut" by spending money (as with all these facebook era browser games) or earn by playing. And as matches aren't long it doesn't take long to earn enough to visit the Merchant

No thanks. Best online TCG was playing MAgic on the likes of MAgic Workstation or Cockatrice - and since that isn't an option anymore, I'll wait for Hearthstone. Not a perfect replacement, but good enough.
 
Suit yourself but I said facebook-era, the game actually has nothing to do with facebook!
