This is a very special Shelby 427 Cobra. It is the winningest 427 Cobra of all time, driven by Dick Smith in SAAC. It also set the fastest speed of any 427 Cobra in history at 198.047 mph at Daytona International Speedway in 1967 driven again by Dick Smith. The car is now kept at the Riverside International Automotive Museum after being sold for over $2,000,000. I have had a hard time finding more about this car so additional information is welcome.

If PD would just let us put numbers on the doors we could easily paint a Cobra red and put number 198 on. In fact I think I'll pop over to the suggestions thread because not only should we be allowed to put racing numbers on the cars, but three digit numbers like this one.

Personally I don't think it's worth using up a car slot for this car though - either give this livery as an option or let us put a race number on the cobra in the game.

I completely agree. Also there is already a 427 Cobra S/C however it has the chrome racing stripe which can't be removed. I think the suggested car list would probably shorten by 10%-25% if a livery maker was to be added.

I also agree with Sick and Nart. I would be happy if we had a choice of liveries for certain cars such as Cobras, Corvettes etc - it wouldn't even need to be a livery editor - a race number and a choice of liveries would be a big improvement.

There are some memories of Dick Smith at this link.

The following link gives lots of information on the S/C version of the Cobra 427.

NB when Shelby cancelled the remainder of his order for 100 cars the AC 428 Frua was born - faced with a cancelled order AC extended the 427 cobra chassis by six inches and fitted a GT body by Frua. The first car was fitted with a 427, but the remainder were fitted with the much cheaper and less powerful Ford 428. Please support this thread for the AC 428 Frua.

I saw the car at a historic race here in Portland, Oregon and have some photos tucked away somewhere. I also have video of Dick Smith starting up and backing the car out of his parking/paddock area and head off to the pre-grid.
